The long-awaited third installment in the28 Days Laterfranchise,28 Years Later, is now going ahead, and starJodie Comerhasteased similarities between the acclaimed first outing and the sequel. Speaking recently withTotal Film, Comer, who will star in28 Years Lateralongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has revealed what it’s like working with returning director Danny Boyle, and how the follow-up will continue the themes of the first movie.
“Having met Danny, he’s incredibly sure and confident and innovative. As an actor to be on a set with someone like that who’s leading the charge is so exciting. I remember seeing 28 Days Later and I was so struck with how it was so rooted in reality, and it was more about the exploration of us as a species and our behavior and how we react.
It felt like there was a lot of emotional truth within the film that really anchored it. That’s also what I felt when I read this script.”
Comer is best known for starring in the hit seriesKilling Eve, for which she won a British Academy Television Award and a Primetime Emmy Award, as well as the likes ofThe Last Duel, The End We Start From, and the upcoming dramaThe Bikeriders. She will lead28 Years LateralongsideKraven the HunterandKick-Assstar Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with the rest of the cast set to feature Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell.
28 Days Laterstar and Oscar winnerCillian Murphy is also due to returnto the franchise that kick-started his career all the way back in 2002. Executive producer Tom Rothman recently teased Murphy’s role in the threequel saying, “Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way.”

A New 28 Days Later Trilogy Is Now in the Works

Alongside director Danny Boyle,28 Days Laterwriter Alex Garland will also return to pen the script, with the writer revealing that anew trilogy is now in the works.
“A whole idea for a trilogy just sort of came – bing! – into my head. It makes me really question what creativity is. I feel like an observer, a lot of the time."
While28 Years Laterwill be helmed by Boyle, it has since been revealed that the second installment in this new trilogywill be directed by Nia DaCosta, who is best known for the horror legacy sequelCandymanand the MCU outingThe Marvels.
