Last weekend, Sony debuted theinternational trailerfor their highly-anticipated young adult adaptationThe 5th Wave, which is set for release on July 07, 2025. While we wait for the next trailer to arrive,Fandangohas debuted the new poster, featuringChloe Moretzas Cassie Sullivan and Zackary Arthur as her younger brother, Sammy. The one-sheet also features the tagline “Protect Your Own,” with Cassie and Sammy surveying the destruction left behind by alien forces.
InThe 5th Wave, set in the present day, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, 16-year-old Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie meets a young man who may become her final hope.
The supporting cast includesNick Robinson,Alex Roe,Ron Livingston,Maggie Siff,Maika MonroeandLiev Schreiber.J Blakeson(The Disappearance of Alice Creed) directs from an adapted script bySusannah Grant(Erin Brockovich), based on theyoung adultbook byRick Yancey. The adaptation will debut against13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,Ride Along 2andThe Nut Job 2.
With the release of this poster, the first domestic trailer forThe 5th Waveis likely just around the corner.The 5th Wavenovel was first published in 2013, followed by last year’sThe Infinite Sea.Rick Yanceyis also publishing anotherbook sequel,The Last Star, set to be released sometime in 2016. We don’t have word yet on whether or not Sony plans on turning those books into movie sequels, but we’ll surely find out afterThe 5th Wavehits theaters.
The 5th Waveis riding a wave of momentum built by a string of successful young adult adaptations, such asThe Hunger GamesandDivergent. Whether or notThe 5th Wavecan capitalize at thebox officeremains to be seen, but with this talented cast and filmmaker behind the project, it certainly shows promise.
