Most die hardStar Warsfans look to the expanded universe to get their fix of content from a galaxy far far away during the long waits between live-action movies. One of the most beloved things in Disney’s current expanded universe offerings is theDisney XDanimated seriesStar Wars Rebels. Anyone who was watching last season knows that there was a massive cliffhanger involving Darth Vader, and the fate of the character Ahsoka Tano. And her fate was finally addressed.
Star WarsCelebration is currently taking place in London, and one of the main events on Saturday was theStar Wars Rebelsseason 3 panel. At the very beginning of the panel, supervising director and producerDave Filoniwas asked point blank about the fate of Ahsoka after her long-awaited battle with Darth Vader at the end ofRebelsseason 2, and he actually decided to not be tight lipped about it, which is a bit surprising. Here is what he had to say.
“The only thing I’ve said is that most likely, probably when it’s a character I really like. And honestly I like Asoka, that it is going to be hard to kill her off. If it was someone like Vader that would make sense, but, I’m not going to say in what way, but it is likely that you might not have seen the last of Ahsoka Tano. Let’s just say that.”
Filonihas a long history with the character of Ahsoka, as he was also heavily involved in theStar Wars: The Clone Warsanimated series, where she got her start. Ahsoka has become one of the morepopular charactersthat exists outside of the movies, so fans are probably very happy to hear that we haven’t seen the last of her. ButFilonidid make a point that we don’t know in what capacity we will be seeing her in the future.
“It could be a cheap out like a flashback, you know what I mean? Or I could put a picture on a lunchbox. They would hate that. So it probably won’t be that way”
It very much seems likeFiloniwas joking for the most part, at least about the lunchbox. However, the idea of Ahsoka returning in a flashback isn’t something that is that far from believable. Being that Ahsoka was a Jedi, the reasonable theory is that she could return as a force ghost, like Obi-Wan or Yoda. A fan decided to ask just that during the Q&A portion of the panel, andFiloniwas pretty quick to shoot it down. He stated that he felt Ahsoka never got far enough in herJeditraining to be able to accomplish that, so we can pretty much rule that out as a possibility.
A trailer forStar Wars Rebelsseason 3 was also debuted at the panel, but there were no teases to Ahsoka in it, so it may be quite some time before we meet with her again on the show.Star WarsCelebration is happening now through Sunday in London, and we will be sure to keep you posted on any news as it breaks.Star Wars Rebelsseason 2 comes out on Blu-Ray August 30 and season 3 is set to debut on Disney XD this fall.
