The new psychological thrilleris an adaptation of the popular Colleen Hoover novel of the same name, released in 2018. The film was directed by Michael Showalter, who previously teamed with Hathaway on the romantic dramaThe Idea of You. May 2026 was looking to be dominated by Hathaway, as the actress would star inThe Devil Wears Prada 2andVerity, released two weeks apart on May 1 and May 15, respectively.
However, it appears that Amazon MGM is pushing backVerity’s release date to avoid Hathaway having two competing films at the box office. Box Office Mojo has listed thatVerity’s release date has been changed to July 25, 2025. No official word has come from Amazon MGM Studios on whether this release date change is accurate.Veritycenters on Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) being hired by Jeremy Crawford (Harnett) to finish the unfinished manuscript of his best-selling author wife, Verity (Hathaway), after an accident. Lowen soon discovers that the manuscript hints at Verity’s psychological state and may point to some serious crimes in her past.

While there might have been some benefit to having two Anne Hathaway films in theaters, giving the star the potential for a double box office hit, it also might have run the risk of the box office success of them competing against each other.
The Devil Wears Prada 2has been picking up momentum following Disney giving it the summer kick-offrelease date it originally reserved forAvengers: Doomsday. Part of the decision to move the release might have been to accommodate Hathaway’s busy schedule, as she likely would not be able to promote both upcoming projects.
