Good news, Avatar fans asThe Legend of Korrais coming to Netflix in August.Avatar: The Last Airbendermade its debut on the streaming service over the summer and has been a new binge-watching obsession for animation fans. Even as the company released a bunch of original programming in recent months, the series proved to be one of the biggest hits of the summer for Netflix. Now, those who enjoyed the adventures of Aang can enjoy the sequel series as well in the not-too-distant future.

“She’s the avatar, you’ve gotta deal with it. The Legend of Korra is coming to Netflix on August 14th in the US.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender made its debuton Netflix in May. The show quickly shot to the top of the service’s charts and remained among the most viewed titles for weeks. It seems Netflix took notice and cut a deal forThe Legend of Korraas well. The sequel series originally aired on Nickelodeon, like its predecessor. It ran for four seasons, totaling 52 episodes. Much likeAvatar: The Last Airbender, the sequel series was met with a great deal of praise from critics and audiences alike.

Thestreaming warshave heated up in a big way over the past year, with other services such as Disney+, HBO Max and, more recently, Peacock, entering the ring to challenge Netflix. That has made licensing deals of premium content harder to come by. ViacomCBS, who ultimately controls the Avatar properties, has a good working relationship with Netflix, specifically for Nickelodeon properties.

The Legend of Korrapicks up 70 years after the events ofAvatar: The Last Airbender. It centers on Korra, the next Avatar after Aang, who hails from the Southern Water Tribe. With earth, water and fire under her belt, Korra is now tasked with mastering the art of airbending. Korra’s quest leads her to Republic City, a melting pot where benders and non-benders live together. She quickly realizes that the land is infested with crime and a growing anti-bending movement, which threatens to tear the city apart. While dealing with these dangers, Korra begins her airbending training under the guidance of Aang’s son, Tenzin.

Netflix is also developinga live-action series version of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show was originally announced back in September 2018 and few updates have been provided since. The service is hoping to avoid the same mistakes that were made in the live-action movie adaptation, which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It certainly doesn’t hurt that original creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino are directly involved this time. In the meantime, fans will have the chance to revisitThe Legend of Korra.
