We may have finally gotten a break in theAvengers: Infinity Warcase. Fair warning, this article may contain some pretty serious spoilers for the upcoming Marvel Phase 3 epic, so if you want to avoid that, turn away now. As it appears we may have learned some serious plot details for the upcomingAvengers sequel. If these details are true, they are a huge deal.
Another warning. This report should not be taken as gospel as it comes from the sometimes, but often not, reliable Latino Review. They report thatAvengers: Infinity Warwill not be adapting theInfinity Warcomic book storyline as most have suspected. Instead, it will be anInfinity Gauntletcrossover, which sees Thanos, who is being played byJosh Brolin, wielding the Infinity Gauntlet with all of the Infinity Gems in order to reign destruction on the universe. Here is how Latino Review describes the plot ofAvengers: Infinity War.
“Marvel’sAvengers: Infinity War will feature the Mad Titan Thanos trying to impress the personification of Death (who will be a woman).Thanosassembles all six Infinity Stones and utilizes the Gauntlet to have god-like powers. His grand plan is that Death will also feel love for him if he brings her enough “souls,” so he decides to extinguish half the life in the universe to impress her.”
For anyone who has read theInfinity Gauntletcomic book story, that description sounds pretty much note for note, which is pretty great. But also, pretty dark and potentially featuring a whole lot of death just to impress a woman. On that note, the big revelation here is that the character of Death will be appearing inAvengers: Infinity War, which the report also mentions. While there is no word on casting, a rumor indicates thatCate Blanchett, who is playing Hela inThor: Ragnarok, could be subbing in for Death in the movie. It would make sense for Marvel to use the talents of an Oscar winner likeBlanchettin more than one movie, and that would be one hell of a way to do it.
In addition to the plot details and the inclusion of Death inAvengers: Infinity War, the report also reaffirms that theGuardians of the Galaxywill be appearing in the movie, and it also claims that Nick Fury will be making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, this report does very little to help clarify what will happen in the now untitledAvengers 4, which was originally slated asAvengers: Infinity War Part II.The Russo Brothershave gone on record saying that the movies are no longer a part one and a part two, rather, they are two very different movies. So, we are still in the weeds on that one.
TheInfinity Gauntletstoryline also includes a significant part forDoctor Strange, who will be the newest superhero in the MCU come November, which would make sense and help cement his place as a powerful character and ally toThe Avengers. This is potentially exciting news, but it also still leaves a lot of questions. We will surely be getting a lot more firm details as production ramps up onAvengers: Infinity Warin Atlanta.Avengers: Infinity Waris being directed byJoeandAnthony Russoand is slated for release on June 21, 2025. The untitledAvengers 4is scheduled for release a year later on August 25, 2025.
