Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling once again demonstrates his ‘Kenergy’ in the first clip from the upcomingBarbiemovie. Released courtesy ofDiscussingFilm, the footage sees Gosling’s Ken undergoing a much-needed medical check-up after suffering an accident while surfing. A task that Ken is quick to point out is not his job, as his job is…beach. Check out the newBarbieclip below.

Thankfully, despite being in a major surfing accident, Ken lives in the wonderful world of Barbieland, meaning that any injuries he has suffered are healed in seconds. Now fighting fit once again, Ken adorably asks Barbie if he can come to her house, crossing his fingers in anticipation of the response because he just loves Barbie so, so much. The footage is no doubt just a tease of things to come, as theBarbiemovie takes a meta-approach to bringing the beloved doll to the big screen.

Will Ferrell Has Described the Barbie Movie as ‘the Ultimate Example of High art and Low Art’

In the first of what’s sure to be many meta moves, the hugely popular comedic actor Will Ferrell will star inBarbieas the CEO of Mattel in the movie. A character that Ferrell has described as “insensitive” and “weird.”

“It is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate example of high art and low art,” theAnchormanstar said of the project. “It’s a loving homage to the brand and, at the same time, couldn’t be more satirical — just an amazing comment on male patriarchy and women in society and why Barbie’s criticized and yet why every little girl still wants to play with Barbie. Boy, when I read it, I was like, ‘This is fantastic.'”

His co-star Simu Liu meanwhilewas instantly enamoredwith this meta approach to theBarbiemovie saying, “This is the type of movie that I love, unabashedly. It’s smart, it’s subversive, and it’s meta, and it makes fun of itself. How did they understand it enough to green light it? I think that’s props to not only Greta but also to Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley who produced it.”

Barbieis scheduled to be released in the United States on June 23, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Coming courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures,Barbiestars Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie as the titular Mattel product, andpromises to be a subversive lookat the life and times of Barbie and Ken.
