Barbie is Due for Release Later This Year

Marvel star Simu Liuhas heaped praise on the diverse cast that will make upBarbie. “I remember very clearly about some of our big intricate dance sequences. Greta was very, very conscientious about who she cast,” he said. “We were able to cast people of different shapes, sizes, differently abled, to all participate in this dance—all under this message of: You don’t have to be blonde, white, or X, Y, Z in order to embody what it means to be a Barbie or a Ken…It’s really about finding your inner beauty and owning that part of yourself and being the best possible version of you.”

Margot Robbie meanwhile used her time playing the infamous Tonya Harding in 2017’sI, Tonya, a performance for which Robbie received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress,to guide her through playing a character as iconic as Barbie. “That’s why I, Tonya intrigued us so much—because people had such an immediate and strong reaction to the name ‘Tonya Harding.’ It’s kind of amazing to begin at a place like that,” she said.

Barbieis scheduled to be released in the United States on August 08, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
