This act puts both Kris and Elisa in grave danger, as the Colombian gangster calls on all the criminal underworld to bring her back.

For many action fans, Scott Adkins in the lead is reason enough to check out thismartial arts-heavy action film.The movie won’t offer much in originality, but it is a solid entry in the action genre that delivers. A great popcorn flick, it makes sense to have a dual VOD and theatrical release.

‘Killing Mary Sue’ (2025)

InKilling Mary Sue, the daughter of a powerful Washington senator, Mary Sue Harper (Sierra McCormick) has become a thorn in her father’s side due to her notorious party life, which often puts her at odds with the law. To keep his image clean, the senator hires a team of assassins to get rid of Mary while gaining support as a grieving father. Yet, after the first assassination fails, Mary unlocks an almost superhero ability to cause stylish, physical violence.

Those looking for something with a dark comedic edge that pokes fun at the Mary Sue trope will want to check out James Sunshine’s debut feature-length film. The over-the-top action and humor are complemented by a great supporting cast, including Dermot Mulroney, Sean Patrick Flanery, Jason Mewes, and Martin Kove.

‘The Amateur’ (2025)

Charlie Heller (Rami Malek) is a brilliant but introverted CIA cryptographer whose life is turned upside down after his wife is killed in a terrorist attack in London. As his superiors at the CIA appear to be burying the case, Charlie begins to investigate it himself. After he learns of corruption in the CIA, he uses the information he finds to blackmail the organization to train him as a field agent so that he can seek revenge for the murder of his wife.

The Amateurmay ask audiences to suspend disbelief, with MovieWeb’s Julian Roman noting in his review, “He’s not James Bond or Jason Bourne, but somehow gets the same results in the practical application part of the test.” However, some phenomenal performances (Rami Malek is excellent as always) and a globe-trotting story will appeal to a lot of action fans.
