It’s looking like we’ll be seeing the sixth and final season ofBetter Call Saula little later than expected, as Emmy-nominated star Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed that production has been pushed back to 2021. Certainly, it’s not a shocker to see the series get a delay, as the same has happened to many other productions scheduled for this year. During a new video interview with HeyUGuys, Esposito confirms that he won’t be back on set to shoot new episodes until next spring.
“We were slated to go in September. We now look like we’ll be going in March. We have a brilliant team of writers, of course, so it’s always exciting to think about getting back to work. We didn’t get a chance to get back to work on season 6. I’m so excited for Vince [Gilligan] and Peter [Gould], and Melissa Bernstein, our producer, to be going back to set sometime in March. I know Vince has said to me, ‘Hey, you’re going to be busy!'”
It sounds like we’ll be seeing plenty of Gus in the show’s final season. That makes sense, given how involved he has become in the storylines ofBetter Call Saulat this point.Season 5 ended with a cliffhangerthat teases a final showdown between Gus and Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton), but given that only one will go on to appear in theBreaking Badtimeline, it would seem that the owner of Los Pollos Hermanos will have the upper hand.
While we can presume Gus will ultimately survive (only to get blown up in a nursing home years later), there are other major characters whose fates are still unknown. Played byRhea Seehorn, Jimmy’s girlfriend Kim Wexler has emerged as one of the show’s fan favorite characters. Michael Mando has also been killing it with his role as Nacho, a criminal who now wants out of the game but might have gotten himself too far deep. Neither character appears in theBreaking Badtimeline, leaving fans to worry if they’ll survive pastBetter Call Saulseason 6.
We might be seeing some other surprises in the spinoff’s final season.Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paulhave both expressed an interest in appearing onSaul, but five seasons in, neither has shown up to reprise their roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. In previous seasons, many otherBreaking Badcharacters have appeared onSaulto great fanfare, including Dean Norris as Hank Schrader, Lavell Crawford as Huell, and Laura Fraser as Lydia Rodarte-Quayle. Of course, Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks have been starring on the series since the beginning as Jimmy McGill and Mike Ehrmantraut.
There’s no telling when we’ll see Esposito carry out his final run asGus FringonBetter Call Saul. For now, fans can check him out as Moff Gideon in the popularStar WarsseriesThe Mandalorian, which just premiered its second season on Disney+.
