Black Panther 2is inevitable at this point. And Marvel has promised a number of sequels and spin-offs.Black Pantherhas become one of the biggest movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It now holds the record for biggest February debut and has gone on to have the second-highest second weekend in box office history. Ryan Coogler has dropped a cultural phenomenon in theaters and moviegoers who wouldn’t normally go see superhero movies are going in droves to see Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa and Wakanda on the big screen.
So, what can we expect fromBlack Panther 2? Let’s take a look.
11Black Panther 2 release date.
The return of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa inBlack Panther 2is inevitable at this point in time, but it is not immediately clear when the sequel will arrive. It will be during the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after the still untitledAvengers 4hits theaters in summer 2019. It’s important to note that Marvel has not officially confirmed any sequel yet, but movies that do this well end always end up with sequels. Plus producer Nate Moore already confirmed thepossibility of multiple sequelsonly weeks into production of the first adventure. That said, the earliest thatBlack Panther 2could come out is at the tail end of 2020, which would mean that director Ryan Coogler would have to be locked in by this point. A more likely possibility is that it will arrive in February 2021, the first MCU movie to be released that year.

Marvel head honcho, Kevin Feige, has already expressed his desire tobring back director Ryan Cooglerto do the sequel. Feige brought up his wish for Coogler to return forBlack Panther 2before the first movie had even hit theaters. Marvel has made it a habit to stick with certain directors, which makes the return of Coogler almost 100 percent at this point. Plus, the director has expressed his enthusiasm for working with Marvel a number of times, so we know that the working relationship is there behind-the-scenes. However, no writer has been officially tapped to pen the sequel just yet.

Chadwick Boseman isT’Challa, aka Black Panther. The actor has graced the covers of Time and Rolling Stone Magazine, gaining high praise for his performance in the first installment. Boseman is a must forBlack Panther 2after making his debut inCaptain America: Civil Warand wowing audiences before they even knew that a Black Panther movie was being planned. It’s important to mention that we still do not know who makes it out ofInfinity WarandAvengers 4alive at this point, but it’s safe to say that Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia is fairly safe along with Letitia Wright’s Shuri. Shuri may end up as the new Tony Stark in the next phase of the MCU, which makes her very important and almost guaranteed that she’ll make it through the bloody battle with Thanos and his Black Order. Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross could also make an appearance since the actor has confirmed that the character will be in future MCU projects.
8Who are the villains in Black Panther 2?
It’s safe to say that Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger will not be making a return inBlack Panther 2, unless it’s through flashbacks. The Black Panther character has been around for decades and there are a lot of villains to choose from. Ryan Coogler admitted that he originally wanted to bring in Kraven the Hunter for the first movie, but Marvel did not have the rights. However, now that the first movie was such a hit, we might be able to seeKraven the Hunterhit the big screen for the first time inBlack Panther 2. M’Baku could also make a return as Man Ape (though they don’t call him this in the movie), since he is left alive and well after the events of the first installment. Nakia actually becomes a villain in the comics, so there’s that possibility as well. Baron Zemo, King Cadaver, Achebe, Namor: the Sub-Mariner, and Klaw are also heavy contenders.
7Black Panther 2 takes place in an entirely different MCU after Infinity War.
The MCU will look a lot different than it looks now after the events ofInfinity WarandAvengers 4. We’re still not sure what characters will make it out alive from the massive battle with the villainous Thanos and his Black Order. Whatever happens in the aftermath of those two movies will set the tone for the new phase of the MCU. We know thatGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3is on the way as isCaptain Marvel, which makes one think that some of those characters could end up in Wakanda forBlack Panther 2or we could see Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in another location. The end of the first movie suggests that Wakanda will offer up its precious Vibranium to the world, so that could be another factor. Additionally, if the Disney and Fox deal goes through, we could see the marriage between T’Challa and theX-Men’s Storm. There’s a lot of ways thatBlack Panther 2can play out and it will be interesting to see where the MCU takes the Black Panther franchise.
6Is Black Panther 2 bringing Storm in to Introduce the X-Men?
While Storm has not been brought up by Ryan Coogler, he has said that Marvel boss Kevin Feige is the right man tobring the X-Men to the MCU.Black Panther 2will come out after the final decision is made for the Disney and Fox deal, so it is possible that theX-Menwill be back to Marvel by that time. T’Challa and Storm had a romance in the comic series and were even married for a short time. The two were divorced during the events of theAvengersvs.X-Menevent in 2012. When asked about the possibility of the romance, Chadwick Boseman joked, “Are you trying to break up my relationship with Nakia? It sounds like that’s what you’re doing right now.”
5Where T’Challa will return next.
Black Panther was first introduced inCaptain America: Civil Warand he’s already been seen in the trailers forInfinity War. Wakanda and T’Challa will be a significant portion ofInfinity Warand the 2019 release of the still untitledAvengers 4. So, there’s at least two places that we will see Black Panther and Wakanda on the big screen before the events ofBlack Panther 2. It seems highly unlikely that he’ll make a cameo inAnt-Man and the WasporCaptain Marvel, but Wakanda will more than likely be mentioned, especially since the world now knows about Vibranium. However, Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross has been rumored to show up inCaptain Marvelsince it takes place in the early 1990s, which is when he was in the Air Force.
4Marvel is planning character spin-offs.
Letitia Wright’s Shuri character will be inInfinity Warand it’s been speculated that she may be the new Tony Stark genius of the group. Fans are hoping to get to see her interact with Stark and Bruce Banner to see who the biggest nerd of the group is. Additionally, Angela Basset’s Queen Mother Ramonda will show up inInfinity Waras well along with T’Challa’s most trusted general and ally, Okoye, played by Danai Gurira. It seems likely that we’ll see the return of Winston Duke’s M’Baku as well, since he later became an ally at the end of the first movie. While these characters are confirmed forInfinity War, it is not clear if they will pop up inAvengers 4.
3Will Marvel explore the origins of Wakanda?
A hardcore Black Panther fan recently started a petition to have Marvel develop a TV series that chronicles the history of Wakanda. The petition wants the show to be setup on Netflix, but if something like this moves forward, it will be through Disney’s own streaming service. It would be pretty cool to see the history of Wakanda unfold and see how they became the most technologically advanced country on the planet, how this remained a secret for all of these years, and how they came to utilize their Vibranium. A mini-series would be a great way to promote the upcomingBlack Panther 2, so that could very well happen.
2When will we see the Black Panther 2 Trailer?
There is currently no release date set forBlack Panther 2, but it seems logical that we would get our first look at the movie around 6 to 8 months before the premiere. The first trailer for Black Panther made its debut in June of 2017, which was pretty far in advance of the February 2018 release date. If the marketing campaign follows the same patterns, we can expect to see a TV spot first and then have an official full-length trailer drop at some point afterwards with a few different TV spots. Black Panther did a great job of teasing footage without giving much away and even had an epic Super Bowl commercial. One thing is for certain, everything will be ramped up considerably after the success of the first movie. So in all likelihood, the first footage we see fromBlack Panther 2won’t strike until 2020 at the earliest.
