‘Go get it, girl!’ Over the past few days, Warner Bros. and DC Films has unleashed a non-stop barrage of new footage from their latest DCEU adventureSuicide Squad. Now we get the first clip. This latest sneak peek has Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, introducingJune Moonto a room full of skeptical government officials. We get to watch as the innocent young woman is transformed intoThe Enchantress. As Waller explains, this sorceress has walked the earth for a very long time, and she will likely be here when we are all long gone.
It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Suicide Squadarrives with one of the biggest ensemble casts of the summer. The character line-up includes such iconic DC Comics characters asHarley Quinn(Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Slipknot (Adam Beach), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). The supporting cast includes Scott Eastwood, Common, Ike Barinholtz, Jim Parrack, David Harbour, and Alex Meraz. Jared Leto arrives to bring the world a new take onThe Joker. And Ben Affleck will also return as Batman from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, although it isn’t known how large or small a role he has in this movie.
Suicide Squadis the third movie in the expansive new DCEU saga from DC FIlms'. It follows 2013’sMan of Steel, which introduced a modernized Superman to an all-new audience. That film was followed byBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which arrived this past spring and helped establish Bruce Wayne into this world. It also introduced such iconic DC characters as Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg.Suicide Squadhits theaters on August 5th, and will be followed next year by a standaloneWonder Womanmovie, which is in theaters June 22, 2025. And then the big ensemble superhero epicJustice Leaguearrives next November.
David Ayer directs Suicide Squad from his own script, based on the DC Comics. We reported earlier this year that Warner Bros. wants David Ayer and Will Smith to return forSuicide Squad 2, which could start shooting in early 2017, but that hasn’t been confirmed quite yet. Suicide Squad promises to have a big presence all throughout Comic-Con, so stay tuned for more surprises as the week continues.
