And Just Like Thatis a comedic drama spin-off of HBO’sSex and the City, which first landed on the network in 1998 and vigorously shook the foundation of the romantic comedy genre on television. It famously starred Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall as four ladies living in New York City and traversing the unpredictable dating landscape, each with their own natures, aspirations, and ever-changing sex lives. As best friends they confide in each other about nearly everything, often over brunch at one of the city’s countless restaurants. The series garnered immense accolades, cemented itself in television pop culture, and went on to make two movies that continued the story further, as well as a prequel series calledThe Carrie Diarieswhich aired on the CW network.

Now, years later after their stories found varying forms of gratification with marriage, children, and new careers, they’ve returned inAnd Just Like That, which threw in some serious plot twists for some of them. Showrunners Darren Star and Michael Patrick King returned to helm the new series, and serve as executive producers alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, John P. Melfi, Jenny Bicks, and Cindy Chupack. The first season premiered at the end of 2021 to immense fan acclaim and staggering viewership ratings for the streaming platform, becoming one of the most watched premieres in the network’s history.

What to Expect With Season 2

The first season of the show settled back into the lives of Carrie (Parker), Charlotte (Davis), and Miranda (Nixon), who each have been grappling with the world changing around them while navigating various aspects of their lives like motherhood, new careers, new love lives, and of course avoiding the dreaded mid-life crisis. Carrie has been dealing with her grief after losing her husband Big, while Miranda shockingly decides to separate from her long-time husband Steve, throwing much of her once rock-solid life and career into complete disarray, and pursuing a flighty new relationship with Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez).

The new trailer opens with Carrie going through her iconic, Manolo-filled closet, finding the box containing her wedding dress while narrating in traditional form that “you don’t move on because you’re ready to, you move on because you’ve outgrown who you used to be”. She’s done her best to adjust to life without Big, single and discovering simple things like that her apartment’s stove is usable beyond just storage. Charlotte and Miranda commend her recovery process. Of course, it then cuts to Carrie returning to her favorite pastime of shoe-shopping, bringing home plenty of new pairs from Bergdorfs to help put the spring back into her step. Miranda wonders if she’s doing something “really stupid or really liberating” by dating a much younger, very adventurous woman named Che. Charlotte is facing a potential job promotion, but her biggest happiness remains in motherhood with her husband and two daughters, who have since nearly grown up.

The potentially biggest surprise of the trailer, however, is the re-appearance of Carrie’s former boyfriend Aidan, who joins her for dinner and feels like ten years went by in a blink. Whether a spark will re-ignite between them remains to be seen, or if they’ll simply remain friends. Meanwhile, the elephant in the room lacking from the trailer is of course Samantha Jones. It was announced out of the blue yesterday that Kim Cattrall would officially be returning to reprise her role, after years of hiatus and an ongoing rift between her and Sarah Jessica Parker. It was actually worked into the show that Carrie and Samantha had their own rift, with the latter moving far away to London. It’s not yet clear how much of an appearance Samantha will make in the second season, though she’s reportedly going to be in the finale, at the very least.

The second season ofAnd Just Like Thatwill premiere on Max on June 22.
