Chris Hemsworthis now one of the only original MCU founding fathers still in the franchise, and his fourth outing as Thor will see him become the first star to be given more than three solo movies. That is an achievement in itself, but it is even more impressive consideringThor: The Dark Worldis still seen by many as the weakest movie in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, a change of style and direction inThor: Ragnaroksaw Thor’s popularity soar, and now the same team is back together forThor: Love and Thunder. Now Hemsworth has been reflecting on “the strongest Avenger” being the first to have a fourth movie all to himself.

Thor: Love and Thunderpicks up the story from the final scenes ofAvengers: Endgame, when Thor decided to leave with the Guardians of the Galaxy after leaving New Asgard in the capable charge of Valkyrie. In an interview withFandango, Hemsworth reacted to being the leader of the fourquel brigade and explained how he has loved rebuilding the character. He said:

Thor: Love and Thunder

“Yeah, no one else has done four. That was cool. I have loved playing this character and every time I’ve done it, I’ve had an opportunity to do something different, particularly when Taika turned up. And every time there’s a new creative venture and a different place to explore. It makes for a fun ride and a fun time. This film is just full of boundless opportunities to recreate again, or rebuild Thor because as you said, the last film, he was in a different space. So, this film was a journey of self-discovery for all of us.”

Thor Won’t Be the Only Avenger Getting a Fourth Movie

While Thor has been a trailblazer for those MCU stars who want to make it to a fourth solo movie, it is not going to be too long before his achievement is mirrored by other characters from the franchise. Tom Holland is the most likely candidate to not only match but overtake Thor’s run, with a new trilogy of Spider-Man movies already being planned between Sony and Marvel Studios. This would make Holland the only other original star to get a fourth movie playing his MCU character.

Of course,Captain America 4is also being developed, but this time around, the title character will be played by the new Cap of the MCU, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson. Having taken over the Captain America mantel at the end ofThe Falcon and The Winter Soldier,he will now get the chance to prove his mettle on the big screen in a new Captain America movie sometime, probably in Phase 5.

Currently, there are several other characters about to make their third outings, such as Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, but with so many new characters being developed and only so much time to be able to tell the stories, it could be a case that many future stars of the MCU find it a difficult task following the likes of Thor and Spider-Man to four solo movies.
