With the30th AnniversaryofBack to The Futurerapidly approaching, some fans are wondering whether all of this attention could pave the way for a new sequel. DirectorRobert Zemeckisshot down rumors of a potential remake earlier this summer, since both he and screenwriterBob Galecontrol the rights, and he doesn’t expect to see a remake until after they’re both dead. The director didn’t say anything about a sequel, and while nothing appears to be set in stone yet, franchise starChristopher Lloydrevealed toThe Hollywood Reporterthat he would be open to returning as Doc Brown inBack to the Future 4.
“I would love to do Doc again, no question. It’s tough to come up with an idea that contains the excitement of the original three. So it would be a real challenge for the writers to come up with an original Back to the Future story that has the same passion and intensity and excitement as the other three. But it could be done, you never know.”
Yesterday, Toyota debuted a newBack to the Future-themed ad whereChristopher LloydandMichael J. Foxare reminiscing about all of the predictions from the year 2015, as seen inBack to the Future Part II, that actually came true. The car manufacturer will release the full video on October 21, the actual date Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) andDoc Brown(Christopher Lloyd) travelled to inBack to the Future Part II. When asked if he thinksMichael J. Foxwould also come back forBack to the Future 4,Christopher Lloydhad this to say.
“I think regardless of the Parkinson’s, he’d probably jump on the role and he’d be great. I can’t see doing another sequel without him. I would certainly want Bob Zemeckis directing it,Bob Galewriting it and the other principals being involved. (The DeLorean) was such a perfect choice for the film. It looked so speedy and futuristic.”
Fans will be able to watch the entireBack to The Futuretrilogy in theaters on October 21, and a new 30th AnniversaryBlu-ray and DVDset will be available on October 20. It’s clear that fans certainly haven’t forgotten aboutBack to The Future, 30 years later, but do you think they would embrace anothersequel, ifChristopher LloydandMichael J. Foxcame back as Doc and Marty?
