Getting your hands on replicas of the originalStar Warsaction figures just got a lot easier. Kenner made the iconic action figures back in the late 1970s and changed the toy industry forever. Since then, the original figures fromA New Hopehave skyrocketed in value with an OG Darth Vader, mint on card, going for thousands of dollars on eBay. Hasbro took over on theStar Warslicense in the early 1990s and has been releasing a ton of franchise merchandise ever since starting in 1995 with a relaunch of the classic characters in a rebooted action figure line.
Now, Hasbro has revealed their new series entitledStar WarsRetro CollectionA New Hope, which includes seven figures in total. There’s Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, a generic Stormtrooper, and a special edition Grand Moff Tarkin. Tarkin comes with the Hasbro reissue of the Escape from Death Star Game. The boxes are meant to mimic the original packaging with aging. There are new stickers that reveal they are the new Retro Series to keep collectors from getting confused. However, the Hasbro name is the best evidence showing these aren’t over 40 years old.

Each figure looks pretty much identical to the original figures fromA New Hope. Back then, the toys were announced before they were actually made, so kids were able to buy an empty box to pre-order them. We’ve come a long way since then, butStar Warsfans are still clamoring to get their hands on the latest Retro Series fromHasbroand it looks like they’re already really hard to come by at the moment.
TheStar Warsretro figures are currently only available atTarget, but they will be available widely in the fall. As for availability, they are all currently sold out and being sold in packages for nearly $200. The suggested retail price per figure is $9.99. With that being said, if you really want to get your hands on these, you might just want to wait until this fall and then set up some Google alerts for extra assurance. It looks like Hasbro may have underestimated the powers of the Force this time around. Hopefully, Hasbro will go through and release more figures from the original trilogy. Fans are more than likely hoping for some vintage Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Yoda.
Hasbro looks to have a sleeper hit on their hands with theStar WarsRetro Collection Episode IV: A New Hope. They were first announced at theNew York Toy Fairearlier this year, but they didn’t seem to make that big of a splash at the time. Whatever the case may be, there are more on the way, but fans are going to have to be patient for the wide release this fall. Impatient fans with some extra cash in their wallet can head out to third party sites to buy all seven of them now. While we wait, you can head over toTargetto check out future availability.
