Universal Pictures has set a February 5, 2016release datefor Hail Caesar, putting it up against Sony’sPride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Four-time Oscar-winning filmmakersJoel CoenandEthan Coen(No Country for Old Men,True Grit,Fargo) write and directHail, Caesar!, an all-starcomedyset during the latter years of Hollywood’s Golden Age.Hail, Caesar!follows a single day in the life of a studio fixer who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.Josh Brolinportrays the fixer, Eddie Mannix, whose primary task is to track down the biggest Hollywood star, Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), who was kidnapped from the set of his latest movie,Hail, Caesar!.
The supporting cast is rounded out byRalph Fiennes,Channing Tatum,Jonah Hill,Alden Ehrenreich,Patrick FischlerandDavid Krumholtz.Joel CoenandEthan Coendirect from their own screenplay, and produce under their Mike Zoss Productions banner alongside Working Title Films' Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan. The Coen Brothers also wrote the screenplay forSteven Spielberg’s new filmBridge of Spies, which hits theaters October 16.
This isn’t the first time the Coen brothers have tackled the Hollywood studio system. Their 1991 filmBarton Finkexplored the life of a playwright turned Hollywood screenwriter, played byJohn Turturro. As of now, the comedy has very little competition at thebox office, so it very well could become an early hit when it hits theaters next year. That all depends on how fans react to this trailer, so we’ll have to wait and see.
