“You know the meme … Marvel’s Spider-“Men” pointing at each other – trying to determine just which one is the imposter from what Spider-Verse. What if we added dozens more … ?” San Diego’s Comic-Con Museum is celebrating Spider-Man’s 60th birthday by trying to create the “largest Spider-Man meme” onSunday, July 24 at 3 p.m. PST, the last day of SDCC 2022. The Comic-Con Museum hopes to gather a mass ofcosplayers and costume fans dressed asanyof the Spider-Man from across the multiverse such as Peter Parker, Penny Parker, Miles Morales, Peter Porker, or Hobie Brown (and that list is only scratching the surface of the Spider-Verse).
The museum is currently home to the world premiere of “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing - The Exhibition,” which debuted to the public on July 1. Attendees are encouraged to visit the Comic-Con Museum and surrounding museums before and after the photo opp. Currently, the museum is also home to the following exhibits: “PAC-MAN Arcade,” “Dave Stevens and the Rocketeer: Art for Arf’ Sake,” “Eight Decades of Archie,” and a sneak preview of “Hemingway in the Comics.”

Origins of Iconic Spider-Man Meme
The famous Spider-Man pointing meme originates from episode nineteen of the 1967Spider-Mancartoon. In the episode, a criminal disguises himself as Spider-Man, but when the real Spidey appears the pointing begins.
The earliest instance of someone using the scene of the two Spider-Mans pointing as a meme appeared on June 07, 2025, onSharenator, along with other classic 1960sSpider-Manimages. Although the other retro images of the animatedSpider-Manseries dwindled away in popularity over the years, the pointing meme survived the culling. “By the mid-2010s, it became the go-to meme for joking about two people (celebrities usually) meeting for the first time. By 2017, it was an institution,” saidNerdist.
Later, with the release of 2019’sSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the moment catapulted to a new level of popularity. The Spider-Man pointing meme became such a phenomenon that it was even recreated inSpider-Man: No Way Home, a couple of years before Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland recreated the meme for a press phototo announce the home release ofNo Way Home.
