Creature Commandosis the latest animated series from DC from the mind of James Gunn that focuses on a misfit team of villains and anti-heroes trying to save the world. The overtly familiar logline should not detract from those interested in seeing the first project from DC Studios, the newly-minted house of theDC Universe. Especially diehard fans of the source material, who recently got their first look at several iconic heroes, includingBatmanhimself.

InCreature Commandosepisode 4, Circe (Anya Chalotra) gives Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) an apocalyptic vision of the future, where DC’s greatest superheroes have fallen at the hands of the world’s most powerful villains. The flash-forward includes brand-new looks atWonder Woman, Starfire, Superman, and many more iconic characters. The scene also includes a sneak peek at the DCU’s version ofBatman, who sports a comically large cape that covers most of his body. It’s hard to make out what he looks like exactly, but there is no mistaking the comic-accurate cowl and bat ears. The ambiguous reveal of the Caped Crusader may disappoint fans who got a much clearer look at other heroes. However, it also opens the door for DC Studios to choose how Batman is fully unveiled to the masses.

Robin World’s Finest DC Comics

While some fans held out hope for another established Batman making his way into the DCU, like Robert Pattinson’s iteration, it seems a truly new version will grace the big screen soon enough. Yes, James Gunn previously thought aboutbringing Matt Reeves’The Batmaninto the DC Universe fold, but fans should expect the brief cameo inCreature Commandosto refer to a much different Dark Knight. And while he could be teased inSuperman, it’s already been announced that Batman will make his “official” DCU debut in another film on the DC Studios slate.

From the director ofThe Flash, Andy Muschietti, comesBrave and the Bold, an upcoming DCU film that will feature Batman alongside his son Damian Wayne, who will don the Robin mantle. Although the film reportedly does not have a completed script and bears no official release date, it’s still a featured project on the confirmed movie slate. WhileThe Batmanremains an Elseworlds title,Brave and the Boldwill introduce audiences to a presumably more fantastical version of the character. The iconic villainClayface, who already has his own movie lined up and a finished script by horror maestro Mike Flanagan, takes place in the DCU within the same universe asBrave and the Bold.
