Fans ofThe Crowdesperately awaiting the reboot haven’t had the best of luck over the past few years. Earlier this month, the project’s studio home,Relativity Media, filed for bankruptcy, stalling it yet again, despite reports that the studio still planned on starting production this fall.James O’Barr, who created the comic book the original movie and the reboot is based on, revealed at the Twin Tiers Comic Con in Elmira, NY last weekend that the movie will still happen, once they find a new studio. Here’s what he had to say at the Twin Tiers panel, hosted byComicBook.com.

“It’s still very much a live property. The company, Pressman Films, that ownsThe Crowfilm and TV rights, licensed it to a studio named Relativity. And Relativity made like a hundred bad movies and lost money so now they’re in financial trouble. So the producers are just going to take it to another studio if Relativity can’t get backing again. It’s going to happen. I talked to Pressman Films a couple of weeks ago and they said within two or three weeks, we should have it placed at a new studio. Because the day Relativity announced that they were having financial problems, there were like a dozen other studios that called about gettingThe Crowproperty. it definitely will happen.”

As of now, the project only hasJessica Brown Findlayattached to star as Shelly Webster, the fiancee ofEric Draven.Jack Hustonwas the latest actor attached to star as Draven, but he dropped out back in June. That report claimed that the studio was eyeingNicholas Hoult(X-Men: Apocalypse) andJack O’Connell(Unbroken) to replaceJack Huston, withForest Whitakereyeing an unspecified role. Now that the reboot is moving elsewhere, it isn’t clear if those actors will be in the mix or not.

The Crowhas been in various stages of developing since 2009, whenStephen Norringtonwas attached to direct thereboot.F. Javier Gutiérrez(Rings) andJuan Carlos Fresnadillo(Intruders) were set to direct at different points in time, beforeCorin Hardysigned on. The Eric Draven role has been a revolving door for actors as well, withBradley Cooper,Mark WahlbergandLuke Evansattached to star over the years.

Alex TseandJesse Wigutowwrote the screenplay, but there is very little we know about the story. The originalcomic bookfollows a rocker named Eric Draven, who is brutally murdered alongside his fiancee Shelly. Eric comes back from the dead asThe Crowto avenge his death. Do you hopeThe Crowwill find a new home sometime soon? Or is this project just cursed?
