Following the latest episode ofStar Wars Rebels, a new clip has debuted from next week’sTrial of the Darksaber. This video showcases the former leader of the Mandalorian group “The Protectors of Concord Dawn”, who tellsKanan(Freddie Prinze Jr.) the history of the ancient Darksaber blade. Here’s how the Concord Dawn leader explains the blade, which was created by Ta Vizsla, voiced byJon Favreau.

“Legend tells that it was created over a thousand years ago by Ta Vizsla, the firstMandalorianever inducted into the Jedi order. After his passing, the Jedi kept the saber in their temple. That was, until members of House Vizsla snuck in and liberated it. They used the saber to unify the people and strike down those who would oppose them. At one time, they ruled all of Mandalore, wielding this blade.”

The clip, which debuted onStarWars.com’s YouTube show Rebels Recon, reveals that the ancient blade was created by Mandalorian Jedi Ta Vizsla, with the blade eventually winding up with Pre Vizsla. We saw in the Season 2 episode “The Protectors of Concord Dawn” thatSabine Wren(Tiya Sircar) is actually a member Clan Wren, House Viszla, which means she’s a rightful heir to the throne and giving her a rightful claim to the darksaber. We saw in the midseason trailer that Fenn Rau (Kevin McKidd) told Sabine that all of the Mandalore people might follow her if she does wield the darksaber. The plot synopsis for this upcoming episode reveals that, “to help recruit her people to join the rebels, Sabine reluctantly agrees to learn to wield an ancient Mandalorian weapon but finds the challenge more difficult than expected.”

Having established a secret base on Atollon, theGhost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire. However, the Imperial efforts to eliminate the rebellion are now being led by the coldly analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose strategic, tactical and cultural insights make him a threat unlike any they have faced before. In season three, Ezra and Sabine take on new roles and challenges as the rebels prepare for their biggest mission yet - a direct assault on the Empire.
