WithSupermanset to hit theaters in just under seven months, DC Studios is turning its attention towards the future, as production has officially begun on the second movie in the newly rebooted franchise. James Gunn’sSupermanflies into theaters on June 02, 2025, with David Corenswet playing Clark Kent. He will be joined by a bunch of popular and underappreciated DC Comics heroes, like Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi). Another hero joining Supes for the movie is Supergirl, played by Millie Alcock.Supermanwill set the stage for Alcock’s solo film,Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which just took a massive step forward in the DC production timeline.

Production has officially begun on DC Studios’Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.The film begins its lengthy shooting schedule at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England. Directing the film is Craig Gillespie, best known forDumb Money,I, Tonya, andLars and the Real Girl. The script has been penned by Ana Nogueira (who is also reportedly working on DC Studios’Teen Titansmovie). While plot details for the film are scarce, James Gunn has previously said it will be a mostly faithful adaptation of Tom King’s comic book run of the same name. The official plot synopsis for the comic reads:

“Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission. Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.”

This is the second big piece ofSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrownews to be revealed in the past few weeks. On December 30, just before New Year’s Eve, Jason Momoa revealed that DC fans' dream casting has finally come true, and he will beplaying Lobo in the DCU,starting withSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Joining Alcock and Momoa inWoman of Tomorrowis Eve Ridley as Ruthye (the alien girl), and Matthias Schoenaerts as the movie’s secret villain.

The DCU Is Off to a Great Start

WhileSupermanwill kick off the DCU on the big screen, the new cinematic franchise was officially kick-started by the animated seriesCreature Commandos. The show opened to rave reviews, and was beloved by fans and critics across all seven episodes, holding a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Following the show’s success,Creature Commandoshas officially been renewed for a second season.

If James Gunn wasn’t busy enough writing and directingSuperman, writingCreature Commandos, and overseeing the entire creative side of DC Studios, he also somehow found time towrite a second season ofPeacemaker, starring John Cena as the titular foul-mouthed superhero. Season 2 is set to be released in August 2025. While Season 1 was wiped from the DCU canon when Gunn and Peter Safran took over the franchise, Season 2 will take place firmly inside the DC Universe.Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowreleases in theaters on June 21, 2025.
