Deadpool 3 Will Be R-Rated & Very Much Part of the MCU

Deadpool 3will see the character leave his world behind and join the MCU, and has been confirmed to bethe first R-rated moviein the franchise to hit the big screen. Director Shawn Levy has described the Marvel outing as “raw, audacious, very much R-rated,” while comparing it to the likes of48 HoursandMidnight Run.

“We wanted something that felt grounded — real. But you put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character… I would say [Deadpool 3] is more a descendant of Midnight Run, and 48 Hours, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles than it is a descendant of Airplane!”

Despite the blood, gore, and other R-rated material that will be on display inDeadpool 3, Levy has previously assured fans that the sequel will be “very much part of the MCU.”

“I’m so wary of giving anything away because I’ve learned the hard way that even with a few titles – like any Marvel title – everything and anything you say can lead to not only rumors but misinformation. I’ll just say this: It’s very much part of the MCU. What a privilege, what a wealth of resources and knowledge.”

Deadpool 3is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
