It’s official! TheDeadpooltrailer will arrive this Tuesday, August 4th. And it will be coming in both the gory, blood-soakedR ratedred band version that is full of vulgar language and intense violence. As well as the family friendly, all-ages green band trailer thatRyan Reynoldscan proudly show off to the kids at the many hospitals he frequents as part of theMake a WishFoundation. Yes, everyone is going to get their wish this Tuesday! And it promises to be glorious!
SinceComic-Conkicked off earlier this month, 20th Century Fox has kept it’s upcomingMarvel superhero moviesin everyones peripheral vision. There has been a constant flood of both Deadpool andX-Men: Apocalypseimages. We keep hearing updated story details. And there’s even been a bit of controversy. First, the reveal of Apocalypse has kept a healthy dialogue going, with many fans appalled atOscar Isaac’s very blue appearance. Some complain that he either looks too much like Ivan Ooze from thePower Rangers, or that he is a dead ringer ofGuardians of the Galaxy’s Ronan the Accuser.
What did Fox do to keepGambitin the conversation, even though it doesn’t shoot until later in the year? With no footage or images to share, certain ‘inside sources’ have leaked the idea thatChanning Tatumis unhappy and wants to leave the production. Is this true? Will it happen? And who will replace him? None of those questions have been answered yet, and probably won’t be until after the release ofFantastic Fournext Friday, on August 7th. That superhero movie is constantly firing off clips, featurettes and TV spots as it comes into the home stretch. And the final push in promoting the somewhat maligned Marvel adventure is the fact that you’ll get to see the first Deadpool footage on the big screen when you buy your ticket. Though most fans are more eager to see the Red Band version at home on their computers.
It was the red band trailer that debuted at Comic-Con that garnered great word of mouth, and really got fans excited. Some called it a perfect reintroduction into this word, following the character’s less-than-well received first appearance in 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverine, where Wade Wilson was also played byRyan Reynolds. While it may be hard to remember, the standalone adventure sat in post-production Hell for several years, until someone leaked test footage that whipped up a lot of attention.
Ryan Reynoldscredits the footage leak for getting the movie green lit at 20th Century Fox. And he continued to champion the idea of bootlegs at Comic-Con. That’s one of the reasons we saw the SDCC trailer leaked so early, and have never gotten a take down notice from the studio. The trailer still exists in that crude form, and if you can’t wait five more days to see the new, improved version, you can check out the first cut here. It wasn’t released to the public immediately because VFX were not yet finalized. It’s more than likely that we will see a few bits of new material added, since we’re a few weeks removed and more work has been completed on the finished movie.
Before the Red Band trailer arrives online,Ryan Reynoldswill be making an appearance onConan, where he will first show the trailer in its world premiere. Though, we’re not sure howConanwill get away with showing a red band trailer. The Alberta Film Ratings Board, who gave the first trailer a PG classification, have now rated ‘Trailer B’, giving it a 14A rating, which is the equivalent of an American R rating. This red band trailer will be 17 seconds longer than the green band trailer. Which means we’re getting some heavy torrents of violence and viscera that won’t be seen withFantastic Four.
