Last month, it was confirmed thatAlden Ehrenreichhas landed the coveted role ofHan Soloin Disney and LucasFilm’s spinoffHan Solo: A Star Wars Story. Before that final decision was made, the studios tested roughly 2,500 actors to play the young Han Solo, with several notable candidates auditioning such asTaron Egerton,Jack Reynor,Miles Teller,Ansel ElgortandEmory Cohen, just to name a few. As it turns out, another rising talent tried out for the role,DaredevilstarCharlie Cox, although the audition didn’t go so well.

The Hollywood Reporterspoke toCharlie Cox, who was promoting his new off-Broadway playIncognito, where he revealed that it’s been fun to “look people in the eyes,” a stark contrast from his work onDaredevil. As it turns out, the actor had gotten into the habit of not looking people in the eyes, which may have cost him the chance to play Han Solo in the upcoming spinoff. Here’s what the actor had to say about his audition.

“I had gone to anaudition- one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot- and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”

We reported last month thatshootingonHan Solo: A Star Wars Storywill begin in January 2017, with the studio already setting a June 06, 2025 release date, which is the exact 41st anniversary ofStar Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope’s release. All we know about the story thus far is it will give Han Solo an origin story, revealing new details about this beloved character before we first met him at theMos Eisley CantinainA New Hope. As of now, no other cast members have been confirmed, but that may change soon with just six months left until filming starts.

Charlie Cox’sDaredevilstill hasn’t been officially renewed for Season 3 quite yet, but the actor will eventually team up withJessica Jones(Krysten Ritter),Luke Cage(Mike Colter) andIron Fist(Finn Jones) in Netflix’sThe Defendersminiseries. It isn’t known when production on that new Netflix show will begin, so stay tuned for more updates.
