Now comes word that he is taking on a role inDoctor Strange. While Mads Mikkelsen has confirmed the unexpected, that he will actually be playing a hero inRogue One, it seems that he’ll go back to being the bad guy when it comes to his interactions with Dr. Stephen Strange.

It is confirmed byVarietythat Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play avillaininDoctor Strange. Which villain? Those details are being kept under wraps for the time being. Sources close to the production say that no offer has been officially delivered. But a contract is expected to be signed shortly. At this time, Marvel and Disney have no comment on Mads Mikkelsen’s involvement.

Tilda Swintonis set to play Strange’s mentor The Ancient One, who is traditionally portrayed as male in the Marvel Comics. The actress does not yet know if she will be playing male or female in the movie, but has performed in drag on multiple occasions.Chiwetel Ejioforis playingBaron Mordo, a former student of the Ancient One who becomes Doctor Strange’s nemesis. Though, he is not the primary villain in the story, a role that looks to be going to Mads Mikkelsen. The relationship between Baron Mordo and this mystery bad guy is not yet known.

Doctor Strangeis set to start shooting later this year. The movie will be in theaters next November, followingCaptain America: Civil War, which debuts in May, kicking off the summer moviegoing season. The two movies will launch theMarvel Phase Threeslate. Marvel has wanted to bring Mads Mikkelsen into the MCU for quite sometime. He was originally slated to play Malekith inThor: The Dark World, but dropped out once he landed the lead role in NBC’s horror drama seriesHannibal.
