Elliot Page’s production company, Pageboy Productions, has optioned the acclaimed YA sci-fi novelThe Darkness Outside Usfor a feature film adaptation. The novel, written by Eliot Schrefer, is the first book in the ongoingThe Darkness Outside Usseries, with the sequel scheduled to be published this October. The sci-fi/romance novel follows two men from warring countries who are confined in a spacecraft on a rescue mission to Jupiter’s moon Titan.
The news came viaThe Hollywood Reporter, with a statement from Elliot Page, Matt Jordan Smith, and Tuck Dowrey, saying,“We are proud to stand behind Eliot’s remarkable work.The Darkness Outside Usis exactly the type of story we want to champion at PAGEBOY – it’s subversive and deeply human at its core.” The trio (who oversee and operate Pageboy Productions), went on to describe the novel as"a complex love story, inventive thriller, and a space epic with twists at every turn."

The announcement came with a statement from Eliot Schrefer, who said “what would I hope for most for my novel? An agile, young, motivated production company that’s buzzy in Hollywood—and that’s just what I got with PAGEBOY Productions.” No production timeline or potential release window has been announced forThe Darkness Outside Usyet, but Page, Jordan Smith, and Dowery remarked,“we cannot wait to take the next steps towards getting it on the big screen.”
