It might make for a physical challenge, butEmily Bluntis up for a sequel toEdge of Tomorrow. Released back in 2014 by director Doug Liman,Edge of Tomorrowwas written by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth. It starred Blunt alongside Tom Cruise as heavily-armored fighters caught in a time loop while battling alien invaders in Europe. It was a hit at the box office and garnered positive reviews, but the big-budget film was never given a sequel.
In a new interview withDeadline, Blunt shared her thoughts on potentially returning forEdge of Tomorrow 2. She explained how she’d love to return for a follow-up film, though she admits that it might take a toll on her back. Given the size of the armored suit she wore in the first movie, that point of view is certainly understandable.

“Well, I would love to do another one,” Blunt explained. “I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but I would love it. I don’t know if my back could take it.”
Last year, Blunt similarly spoke about the back pain she endured while working on the first movie. While reflecting on the film on theSmartlesspodcast, she remembered coming very close to quitting the project after she tried on the suit, which she said weighed around 85 pounds. Right in front of her co-star Tom Cruise, Blunt broke down into tears the first time she put on the suit, but some encouragement gave her the motivation she needed to charge through it.
“I started to cry, I was like, ‘I’m just feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot!'” Blunt remembered. “[Tom] literally goes — he stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on. Stop being such a p*ssy, okay?’ And I did laugh, and we got through it.”

In her new Deadline interview, Blunt also recalled Cruise’s advice, which she clarified was done in a “charming” way that truly helped.
“[He said it] in the funniest, most charming way in the world because [Tom Cruise] was such a gem to me,” Blunt says. “But I think we just knew I just had to toughen up and get through it. Because otherwise, you would spend the entire film fighting against the fact that you wished your suit was lighter, but it wasn’t.”
She continued, “But I loved the experience so much, and I would love to work with Doug [Liman] again. It’s like we have to create something as ambitious as the first one. How much more mileage can we get out of a repeating day? What’s the new construct?”
WhetherEdge of Tomorrow 2ever ends up happening remains to be seen. Blunt said in 2021 that there wasan “amazing” screenplaythat had been written, but she was still unsure if the film “can even happen now.” No significant updates on the potential sequel seem to have emerged ever since.
