Ever since its inception in 2001, theFast & Furiousfranchise has continued to add exciting new characters, while keeping established characters like Dom Torretto (Vin Diesel) in the mix as well. The next installment,Fast & Furious 8, will be no different, withCharlize Theronrecently signing on to play thevillainandGame of ThronesstarKristofer Hivjuis starring as her primary henchmen. Today, we have news fromDeadlinethat another key character has been added, withScott Eastwood(Suicide Squad) taking on the role.
Unfortunately, no details about the actor’scharacterhave been released, and it isn’t known if he will be siding with Dom and his crew, or if he’ll be another character associated withCharlize Theron’s villain. Franchise mainstaysVin Diesel,Dwayne Johnson,Tyrese GibsonandMichelle Rodriguezare set to return, along withJason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. Deckard first surfaced in the end credits scene ofFast & Furious 6and became the main villain inFurious 7.
No story details have been uncovered yet, but the action is set to primarily take place in New York City. Thesequelwill be primarily shot in New York and Atlanta, with production also set to take place in Cuba, Iceland and Russia. Principal photography is scheduled to begin sometime next month, so we should be hearing about more casting additions in the near future. There have been rumors that the production is bringing back2 Fast 2 FuriousstarEva Mendesas Customs Agent Monica Fuentes, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
F. Gary Gray, who directed last year’sbox officesensationStraight Outta Compton, is taking the helm onFast & Furious 8, working from a script byChris Morgan. The writer is responsible for penning every movie in the series, except for the first two, 2001’sThe Fast and the Furiousand 2003’s2 Fast 2 Furious. Universal has already set an April 14, 2017release dateforFast & Furious 8.
Scott Eastwood, the son of legendary actor/filmmakerClint Eastwood, will next be seen inSnowden, hitting theaters May 13, and in the highly-anticipatedSuicide Squad, arriving August 5.
