Yesterday, directorPaul Feigdecided toreveal on Twittera first look at the newGhostbustersuniforms to be worn by hisall-female cast, which includesKristen Wiig,Melissa McCarthy,Leslie JonesandKate McKinnon. Many thought the next big teased would be the ladies suited up and ready to fight thesupernatural. Nope. Instead, today we get our first look at the mostly new Proton Packs these lady Ghostbusters will be slinging in what is described as a complete reimagining of the franchise.
The Proton Pack design stays pretty close to what we know and love from the original 1984Ghostbustersand its 1989 sequelGhostbusters 2. It is a little slicker, and a bit more compact, but not a huge leap in style or design. While the costumes shown off yesterday and this new proton pack stay locked into the trueGhostbustersaesthetic, the film will be somewhat of a departure from what we already know and have seen in the franchise. The new haint hunters are described as ‘Paranormal Warriors’ and the movie will attempt to truly depict what this profession would look like in the real world. Why the film is headlined by four of the funniest comedians in the world right now, laughs will take a back seat to some of the bigger scares directorPaul Feighas planned.
The girls will develop these proton packs on their own, coming up with the technology through trial and error. They won’t be made by an outside party looking to capitalize on their business. We won’t be seeing Apple’s iPack, not at least in this initial reboot. Ghostbusters is currently shooting in New York City and Boston. It isn’t known if more photos will be released throughout the day, or if Sony is planning a big reveal atComic Con, though the studio has declined to officially participate in the annual event. While we await an official photo of the girls in their jumpsuits, take a look at their new hardware.
