Devin Faraci, the popular film critic and editor-in-chief of Birth.Movies.Death (formerly Badass Digest), has resigned from his post, following allegations ofsexual assaultthat surfaced on Twitter.Devin Faracihad been tweeting about the leaked tape featuringDonald Trumpbragging about sexually assaulting women, when a Twitter user known as “spacecrone” askedDevin Faracion Sunday if he had remembered, “grabbing me by the p—y and bragging to our friends about it, telling them to smell your fingers?“Faraciresponded later that day, stating, “I do not remember this. I can only believe you and beg forgiveness for having been so vile.” Earlier today,Devin Faraciannounced his resignation with the following statement.
“This weekend allegations were made about mypast behavior. Because I take these types of claims seriously I feel my only honorable course of action is to step down from my position as Editor-in-Chief of Birth.Movies.Death. I will use the coming weeks and months to work on becoming a better person who is, I hope, worthy of the trust and loyalty of my friends and readers.”
The Hollywood Reporterspoke with the woman, a 33-year-old non-profit worker from New York named Caroline. She revealed thatTim League, the founder ofAlamo DrafthouseCinemas, which owns Birth.Movies.Death, reached out to Caroline, who asked not to have her last name revealed.
“We had a really good conversation about it that left me feeling like he understood the situation and was interested in helping Devin. I’m really happy thatTim Leaguetook this seriously and that Devin is interested in getting treatment. I’ve let them know that I’m available for any accountability processing that might be part of his rehabilitation.”
Caroline’s initial tweet toDevin Faracihas since been deleted, because it had “become a focal point for some really vile stuff that i don’t feel is in any way in touch with what actually happened.” We have assembled a collection of tweets from Caroline about the incident, which took place in 2004 in New York. She also told The Hollywood Reporter that she asked him about the incident two years later on an internet message board, and after that confrontation, he “kind of disappeared” after that.
