Earlier this month, production got under way on 20th Century Fox’s highly-anticipatedAlien: Covenantin Australia, under the direction ofRidley Scott. We’ve already seen one rather revealing photo from the set, which teases a connection to the director’s 2012 sci-fi thrillerPrometheus. And today we have yet another photo that reveals how theWeyland-Yutanicorporation is involved in the story. Unfortunately, this image doesn’t feature any of the actors on set, but it still is quite intriguing.
You may recall that, in 2012’sPrometheus, the company was known as the Weyland Corporation, but it seems that sometime in the aftermath of that story, Weyland merged with Yutani, and the infamous Weyland-Yutani corporation was born. It’s worth noting that, duringPrometheus, Weyland CEO Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) and his daughter Meredith (Charlize Theron) were killed, which may have played a part in the Weyland-Yutani merger. We reported in December thatAlien: Covenantwill take place a decade after the events ofPrometheus, which would place the movie around the year 2103, roughly 19 or 20 years before the originalAlien.

Alien: Covenantcenters on members of anintergalactic expedition, aboard the ship Covenant, who discover what they think is an uncharted paradise. They soon find that this planet is a dark and dangerous place, whose only inhabitant is David (Michael Fassbender), the sole surviving member of thePrometheusexpedition. Back in November, directorRidley Scottteased thatNoomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw, who was also alive at the end ofPrometheus, will have a just a small role inAlien: Covenant, but there have been other reports that her role has been cut entirely.
Alien: Covenantalso starsKatherine Waterston,Danny McBride,Demián Bichir,Jussie Smollett,Amy Seimetz,Carmen EjogoandCallie Hernandez.Ridley Scottis directing from a script byJack Paglen,Michael GreenandJohn Logan.
