We have a brand new image and behind the scenes video from DC’sSwamp ThingTV series. This is just one of several shows that are being developed specifically for the recently launched DC Universe streaming service.Titans, which just wrapped up its first season, was the first show to air on the service, but there are several more coming down the pipeline next year. One of which will finally giveSwamp Thingthe modern live-action treatment many have been dying to see.
The image and video were both shared bydirector Len Wiseman, who is working on theSwamp Thingseries. The image showcases star Andy Bean, who portrays the titular character in his human form, as well as co-star Crystal Reed. The photo itself isn’t all that telling, unfortunately. The video, on the other hand, actually takes us deep into the character’s natural habitat, with a trip through the swamp at night on a boat. Even though the show has modern horror master James Wan on board as a producer, it’s eerily calm, with some relaxing music playing in the background on this little backwater boat tour.
Themodern age of comic book movie adaptationshas brought us many things that we couldn’t have dreamed of seeing even a handful of years ago.VenomandAquamanare certifiable hits at the box office andTitansintroduced us to Krypto the Superdog, which is still hard to get one’s head around. But we still haven’t had a modern adaptation ofSwamp Thing, which is something die-hard DC fans have been craving for some time now. The question is, can this show do the character justice?
Swamp Thingfirst appeared in thepages of DC ComicsinHouse of Secrets#92 back in 1971. Since then, he’s gone on to become a cult favorite and comic book legend Alan Moore’s run on the title isn’t just considered to be one of the better DC runs ever, it’s widely regarded as one of the best runs in comics. Period. Luckily, it looks like the show’s creators are going to be taking a lot of inspiration directly from that run. They’re also going for an R-rated tone and, fear not, as the character will be portrayed practically with a man in a suit and he won’t be a purely CGI creation.
The cast also includes Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott and Maria Sten withDerek Mears on board to portray the monster versionof the character.Swamp Thingdoesn’t have a premiere date set on DC Universe, but it’s expected to make its debut sometime in 2019.Doom PatrolandStargirlalso have live-action shows in the works for the streaming service.
