Johnny Depp’s upcoming appearance as King Louis XV has been revealed in a first look teaser image for the movieJeanne du Barry, akaLa Favorite, Depp’s first major feature film appearance in two years and the first to be released following the culmination of the actor’s very public defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard. Depp will play the French ruler opposite Maïwenn, who portrays Madame du Barry and also directs the movie from Why Not Productions. Following the conclusion of the well-publicized double defamation trail between Depp and Heard, Depp began filming onJeanne du Barrythe following month on July 26. The shoot is currently ongoing in a number of locations around France including Versailles and chateaux in and around Paris. The movie itself is inspired by the life of “young working class” Jeanne du Barry, who is “hungry for culture and pleasure and who uses her intelligence and allure to climb the rungs of the social ladder one by one.” The story will tell of how she became the favorite companion of Louis XV, and how the pair’s love leads to scandal when she moves to Versaille against all etiquette.

Along with Depp and Maïwenn, Jeanne du Barry stars Benjamin Lavernhe (The French Dispatch), Pierre Richard (The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe), Noémie Lvovsky (Camille Rewinds), Pascal Greggory (The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc) and India Hair (The Tears Thing). Maïwenn also penned the screenplay with co-writer Teddy Lussi-Modeste. The movie will premiere in French theaters in 2023, and will be available on Netflix’s French platform only 15 months after its theatrical release.

Johnny Depp Has Been Returning To Public Life Following His Defamation Trial

There have been many rumors about how and where Johnny Depp will appear in the future, but what is no secret is that the actor has come out of his defamation trial in a much more favorable position than ex-wife Amber Heard. As well as his role as King Louis XV, Depp has reportedly signed a huge new deal with Dior, one of the many companies that continued to stand by the actor throughout the trial.

Depp has made it clear that the trial’s outcome has allowed him to close a chapter in his life that has been left open for too long. Immediately after the trail conclusion, Depp joined musician Jeff Beck on tour in the U.K., announced that he would be collaborating with Beck on an album, and also set up a 2023 tour with his bandHollywood Vampires. There have been a number of celebrities who have openly commented that they want Depp to work on upcoming projects with them, and rumors of a possible return to thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise are still refusing to go away despite many believing that Depp has put the Disney IP behind him.

WhileJeanne du Barryis currently the only movie project that Depp is confirmed to appear in, the actor is clearly back where he wants to be, and his fans can expect to see him making plenty of other appearances in the future.
