Niels Arden Oplev, best known for the original Norwegian version ofThe Girl with the Dragon Tattooand his stateside debutDead Man Down, is directing from a script by Ben Ripley. Laurence Mark andMichael Douglasare producing this remake. Sony has declined to comment about the casting. Diego Luna’s reps did not respond.
The original Flatliners followed a group of medical students and close friends who conduct experiments with near death experiences. Their unorthodox extracurricular studies have very dark consequences. And the team soon find their own lives in danger. The original cast was an ensemble of80sactors at the height of their career, and includedKiefer Sutherland,Julia Roberts,Kevin BaconandOliver Platt. This new cast is being described as ‘more inclusive’ and international.
Joel Schumacherdirected the original, which focused on these four men and one woman as the delved into the depths of the unknown to find if the afterlife truly exists. This new venture into that same territory will have a core cast that consists of three women and two men. No other plot details have been provided, and it isn’t known how far from the original plot the remake will deviate.
Diego Luna recently wrapped shooting onRogue One: A Star Wars Story. He plays aRebel Soldieron a secret mission to steal plans for the first Death Star. No character details have been released at this time. The actor will soon hit the press trail forRogue One: A Star Wars Story’s immense 2016 promotional campaign. Diego Luna is also starring oppositeMel GibsoninBlood Fatherlater this year, and he has a major role inThe Bad Batchstarring alongsideKeanu ReevesandJim Carrey.Flatlinersbegins shooting in early July.
