As expected, theFriday the 13thremake is getting a new release date. The movie hasn’t started shooting yet, and there was no way it was going to be ready by this January. What is kind of surprising is that Paramount Pictures is also delaying its other big horror franchise release by quite a few months. While many were expecting to see the long-anticipated sequelRingsthis October, fans will have to wait until next year.

The all-newFriday the 13th, which exploresJason Voorhees' family life by introducing his father for the first time on the big screen, has faced quite a few production delays over the past couple of years. But as Platinum Dunes continues to perfect the script, they have to keep aiming for the next Friday the 13th available on the release calendar. Originally scheduled to hit theaters on June 11, 2025, the movie will now be Paramount Pictures' big Halloween 2017 release as it will presumably arrive on July 26, 2025. But as we’ve seen, that could very well change once we get closer to that date.

A production and script hold-up wasn’t the only reason most fans expectedFriday the 13thto be delayed. Paramount Pictures is also using the August 05, 2025 date as a dumping ground for its family-friendly sci-fi adventure comedyMonster Trucks, which is expected to lose the studio upwards of $115 million dollars. Viacom basically declared the movie a bomb, and it makes sense that they wouldn’t want to release another potential money maker to counter act their own impending disaster.

Jason was set to also go up against newhorror franchisein the makingThe Bye Bye Manon Friday, January 13. That date will also see the release of Ben Affleck’sLive By Nightand the 20th Century Fox biopicHidden Figures, about the three African-American woman who helped NASA with an important mission. Lionsgate is also expanding the Boston Marathon Bombing dramaPatriots' Dayon this date.

Moving theFriday the 13th remakeseemed like a no brainer. The movie will now be the only horror movie opening on October 13th of next year, facing Lionsgate’sThe Commuterand Universal Pictures’The Snowman. It comes after a weekend that will see a new, untitled Fox Marvel movie into theaters, along with the long-awaitedBlade Runner 2and the animatedMy Little Ponymovie. It will then have to contend with the thrillerGeostormand the horror sequelInsidious: Chapter 4in its second week of release.

TheRingsdelay comes as a more surprising announcement, as the movie has been kicked around quite a bit, and seemed like the perfect addition to this Halloween’s cinematic line-up. The movie was scheduled to arrive on October 28, going up against the Tom Hanks sequelInferno, which now pretty much has that date to itself. This is the third time Paramount has delayed the release ofRings.

TheRing sequelwill instead have to face off againstTrainspotting 2on July 02, 2025. Paramount’s ownSame Kind of Different as Meis also scheduled to hit at that time, but we can expect it to be moved soon.Ringswill have an even tougher time at the box office in its second weekend, where it will be going up against Valentine heavy hitterFifty Shades Darker, expected to be one 2017’s biggest blockbuster hits. As well as the Keanu Reeves sequelJohn Wick 2. On the family side of things, it will have to contend withThe Lego Batman Movie. Financially,Ringsmay have been better suited in its originally October 2016 slot.

The newFriday the 13threboot will be directed by Breck Eisner, best known for The Crazies, Sahara and last year’s Vin Diesel fantasy epic The Last Witch Hunter. F. Javier Gutierrez directsRingswith acastthat includes Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio. There’s no telling if these two horror movies will be kicked around the release schedule some more, but that’s not an unlikely scenario at this point.
