Disney’sSnow Whitewill follow the recent trend of diversifying the actors and actresses taking on lead roles in some of the studio’s biggest movies, but the casting of the movie has not been without controversy. Colombian-born Rachel Zegler wassubjected to a wave of online hatewhen it was announced that she would be taking on the role of the girl with “skin white as snow.” The backlash was so intense that Zegler doubted whether she was worthy of taking on the role. She previously said:

“There was a huge imposter syndrome shadow that loomed over me. I was reading these horrible things people were saying, like, ‘What kind of dirt does she have on whoever holds the puppet strings in Hollywood? Because that has to be the only reason she’s booked gigs while waiting for this movie to come out.’ As much as it’s b*llshit to read, it takes a toll.”

Zegler’s casting is not the only timeSnow Whitehas found itself on the dark side of social media. In August Zegler revealed thatthe role of the prince had been changedin the movie to make his actions less “like a stalker” than in the original film. A few months ago, photos reportedly from the set of the movie, featuring a range of actors playing the roles of Snow White’s seven companions, caused outrage and accusations of “destroying” the movie in the name of diversity.

All will be revealed in good time, but for now, Disney seems to want to keep things under wraps a little longer. With the movie currently expected to hit cinemas on July 02, 2025, it will not be too long until the first teasers forSnow Whitebegin to surface.
