Game of Thronesremains a pure, pop culture phenomenon that fans absolutely can’t get enough of. Sadly, the show is only going to be running for two more seasons, which will be shorter than the previous seasons have been. What has been adding to the frustration some fans are feeling heading intoGame of Thrones season 7is that the show will be debuting later this year, as opposed to its typical April debut. We now may finally know when the show is coming back which, according to starLiam Cunningham, will be in July.
The Irish actor who plays Davos Seaworth on the hit HBO fantasy series was recently interviewed byThe Irish Independentand he shed some light on the premiere dates forGame of Thronesseasons 7 and 8. According to him, HBO is planning on dropping thefirst new episodethis July. Here is what he had to say about it.
“I’ve been disappointing various people around the world because [Game Of Thrones Season 7] was meant to come out in April. It’s July now, I think. There’s going to be a launch and something special happening this year for the premiere. The bad news is, there will only be seven episodes and the final season starts again as far as I know in September.”
The good news is that, assumingLiam Cunninghamknows what he is talking about, fans now know that they will be able to seenew episodes of Game of Thronesthis summer. We have already known for a while that season 7 will be airing later than normal, so July isn’t that big of a deal. It sounds like the final season ofGame of Throneswill be shooting this September, but it’s not clear if it will debut in April of 2018 or later in the summer as well. This latest news isn’t all that surprising, since the show’s production schedule has been delayed since Season 6 came to an end. Part of the reason for the delay had to do with the show needing to film in more snowy and wintery locations.
Even thoughGame of Thronesseason 8 will be the last of the series, HBO has plans to continue capitalizing on the popularity of authorGeorge R. R. Martin’s world. There has been talk of the network looking to potentially do a spinoff of some sort, most likely a prequel series, which HBO’s Programming PresidentCasey Bloyssays they would be “foolish not to explore.” But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, because we still have two more seasons ofGame of Thronesto enjoy.
Game of Thronesseason 7 will consist of seven 7 episodes, as opposed to the 10 episodes that fans have become accustomed to. As forGame of Thronesseason 8, it was initially reported that the show’s final season would only consist of 6 episodes, butCasey Bloyshas said that the episode order may get extended. We’ll have to wait for some sort of official word from HBO, but it looks like we may be returning to theworld of Westerosthis July.
