TheGame of Thronesuniverse on HBO continues to expand. Several spin-offs based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved fantasy novels are currently in development at the network and one of those projects has just locked in a writer.10,000 Ships, which will center on Princess Nymeria, will be written by Amanda Segel (Helstrom, Person of Interest). While the show has yet to be handed a series order, this is an important step in the right direction.

According to a new report, Amanda Segel has been tapped to write the series. No further details were provided at this time. Segal has served as a writer on hit shows such asWithout a TraceandPerson of Interest. Some of her recent writing credits includeThe Mistand Marvel’sHelstrom, which debuted on Hulu last year. In many cases, Segel has also served as a producer on these shows. She was a co-executive producer onHelstrom, for example.

10,000 Ships, the tentative title for the spin-off, was originally revealed to be in development back in March. This show would, in theory, take place roughly 1,000 years before the events depicted inGame of Thrones. HBO is also developing anotherGoTseries, going under the title of9 Voyagesfrom Bruno Heller, with another show in the works centered on Flea Bottom. Additionally, an animatedGame of Thronesseries is said to be in the works. Plus, theDunk & Egg novellasare being discussed for a possible show. The Princess Nymeria show that Amanda Segel has boarded is described as follows.

“The drama is expected to follow the journey made by warrior queen Princess Nymeria and the surviving members of the Rhoynars, who travelled from Essos to Dorne following their defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War.”

All of these other potential shows are in addition toHouse of the Dragon, theupcoming spin-off that is set to arrive next year. HBO had also previously filmed a pilot for a different prequel series starring Naomi Watts that was not picked up to series. The main takeaway here is that the network sees theGoTuniverse as something worth expanding in a big way. Even thoughGame of Thronesconcluded its run on a sour note, it was one of the most popular shows in the world during its run. And the universe created by George R.R. Martin is rich and expansive.
