For more than a decade, a big-screen adaptation of the hugely popularvideo gameGears of Warhas been stuck in development. Now one of the proposed project’s producers, Dylan Clark, has offered a promising update on theGears of Warmovie, revealing that we should hear some concrete updates very soon. Speaking withThe Digital Fix, Clark said…

“I’m glad that you’re interested in it. It’s something it’s been a passion of mine for a very long time. I think very soon there will be an announcement.”

Created by Epic Games, developed and managed by The Coalition, and owned and published by Xbox Game Studios,Gears of Waris a third-person shooter and focuses on the conflict between humanity and the subterranean reptilian hominids known as the Locust Horde. Featuring giant men battling even more giant monsters, Gears of War became one of the best-selling franchises for the Xbox 360, with fans having waited patiently for the explosive action to make the transition from video game to the silver screen.

It was all the way back in 2007 that New Line Cinema purchased the rights to make aGears of Warmovie, with Stuart Beattie, Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey on board to write the script. DirectorLen Wiseman, who is best known for helmingDie Hard 4and several installments in theUnderworldfranchise, was then attached to direct the project with the intention to begin filming in 2009.

Wiseman officially signed onto the video game project in 2008, with plans in place to make the movie a prequel to the games, but theGears of Warmovie began having problems getting off the ground in 2010, with Wiseman dropping out and the budget being slashed. In recent years there have been various confirmations and whispers regardingGears of War, including that F. Scott Frazier will write the movie, but not much else has emerged about the project. Here’s hoping that, at long last, theGears of Warmovie is finally moving forward.

One man who will have his fingers double-crossed while waiting for some positive developments on theGears of Warmovie isGuardians of the GalaxystarDave Bautista. Often chosen for a central role by fans, the wrestler-turned-actor has been wanting to star in the video game project for some time andeven pitched an idea to Warner Bros.

“I don’t make any pretense about it,” Bautista revealed. “I had a chance to get a meeting at WB, they were talking to me about this and that and I said ‘hey, let’s talk about Bane.’ That happened to me one other time in my career. They wanted to talk to me about Fast and the Furious, and I said ‘I’m not interested, let’s talk about [Gears of War character] Marcus Fenix’…”
