Fans of things that a lot of people liked in the 90s got a big nostalgia kick a couple of years ago when Disney Channel aired the first episode ofGirl Meets World. The series has been asuccessful spinoffofBoy Meets Worldand is currently nearing the end of its third season, which will conclude on January 20. As it turns out, that could be the end of the show altogether, according to one of the stars of the series.

Rider Strong, who has returned to reprise his role as Cory’s best friend Shawn fromBoy Meets World, was a recent guest onLiterary Disco. During the course of the episode, the subject ofGirl Meets Worldcame up, and whatRider Stronghad to say makes it feel like the show could very well be over after this upcoming run of episodes. Here is what he had to say.

“We finished the third season of Girl Meets World, my brother and I were directing a lot of episodes and I acted in a couple, and the show ended.”

At the moment, it is very unclear ifDisney Channelhas canceledGirl Meets Worldor not.Rider Strong’s comments seem to lend some credibility to the idea that they are going to wrap up the series at the end of this season. The show has seemingly done well for the network, but the fever seemed to die down a fair amount after the first season and nostalgia can only take something so far. So it looks like fans ofGirls Meets Worldmay have to prepare themselves for the possibility that the show will be ending in the very near future.

Girls Meets Worldfollows Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) several years after moving to New York, following the events ofBoy Meets World. They have started a family with the focus of the show on their daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and her best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). The series has allowed for otherBoy Meets Worldcast members to pop up here and there, such asRider Strong, but it has tried to stand on its own for those who didn’t watch the original show.

The final episode ofGirl Meets Worldseason 3 is scheduled to air on January 20 and is titled “Girl Meets Goodbye.” That title definitely also seems to point toward a conclusion to the series, especially considering that it will feature the biggestBoy Meets Worldreunion on the series to date. The episode will be bringing backRider Strong(Shawn),William Daniels(Mr. Feeny),Will Friedle(Eric),Anthony Tyler Quinn(Mr. Turner),William Russ(Alan),Betsy Randle(Amy),Lee Norris(Minkus),Danny McNulty(Harley),Lily Nicksay(Morgan No. 1) andLindsay Ridgeway(Morgan No. 2). We’ll have to wait and see if Disney makes an official statement between now and then but for now, it looks like we’ll be saying farewell toGirl Meets Worldvery soon.
