For many horror fans growing up in the ’90s, and even in the present, their gateway into the genre was theGoosebumpsfranchise. It was originally a book series by R.L. Stine that ran for 62 installments. Besides the many spin-offs that Stine has continued to write, the series has been adapted to film and television on multiple occasions. The latest is a Disney+ and Hulu show starring scream kingJustin Long, which started airing episodes on October 13 and is scheduled to finish its first season run on November 17. But executive producers Conor Welch and Pavun Shetty are already thinking about what they’d like to see in a second season.

The show has already drawn plot elements from several greatGoosebumpsbooks. So, a natural question for season two would be what books are going to be making there way into season two. We at MovieWeb were certainly wondering that. So during our interview with Welch and Shetty, they were asked if there was they really wanted to include or anything they’s put into season two after being unable to fit it in season one.

Long in Jeepers Creepers

“Well, Go Eat Worms was always my absolute number one favorite, like to this day, I don’t look at worms the same way. So I was just very pleased that we were able to get that into this season, and I think similarly it’s one of my very favorite episodes,” said Conor Welch.

So, it sounds like the creatives behind the seriesare already looking towards the futureand what a possible season two might hold. Before continuing, it might be worth going over the unique structure ofGoosebumps(2023) again. The books and previous show were both anthologies with little continuity with one another, though there were exceptions. The final book inGoosebumps' original run wasMonster Blood IV. This new show is similar to theGoosebumps Horrorlandseries where there are individual stories, plus an overarching plot.

Goosebumps Season 2 Would Pull a Lot More From Night of the Living Dummy

Pavun Shetty meanwhile added that a second season would pull “a lot more” fromNight of the Living Dummy:

“We do tap into Night of the Living Dummy a little bit in season one, it’s not a standalone story in this, but Slappy is a part of the series, a big part, and so it was exciting to pull from those books, but not directly as far as the original and second one [Night of the Living Dummy II] went. So I honestly think there’s a lot more to pull from Night of the Living Dummy moving forward.”

Hearing that we can expectto see more of Slappy the Dummyshould hardly come as a surprise. Originally introduced inNight of the Living Dummy, the seventh book in theGoosebumpsseries, Slappy has since gone on to become one of the most reoccurring characters across all the books. Making it only appropriate that Slappy has also become the mascot forGoosebumpsfranchise as a whole.

Here’s the official synopsis for the show:

“Inspired by R.L. Stine’s worldwide bestselling book series, Goosebumps follows a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle – while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.”
