Gothamseason 5 will be the show’s last. Fox has stepped up and renewed theDC Comics seriesfor a fifth and final season which will finally give fans who have been following the show something they’ve wanted to see for a long time.Gothamseason 5 will focus on Bruce Wayne’s transition into Batman. Here’s what the producers had to say about the upcoming season.

Fox swooped in and picked upGothamseason 5 at the last minute. The series is produced by Warner Bros. TV, who pushed to make the pick up happen. This will be a shorter, 13 episode season, which is a little closer to the length of a typical season of cable TV these days. Most importantly, the 13 episodes will bring the show’s total number to 101, putting it right in the sweet spot for syndication. That means other networks can purchase the rerun rights and could potentially mean big money for years to come.
Fox first broughtGothamto the screen in 2014 featuring a young David Mazouz as a version ofBruce Waynewith his parents having been freshly murdered before his eyes. Typically, in the history ofBatmanon screen, we flash forward several years to Bruce Wayne as the Caped Crusader, or in the case of something likeBatman Begins, at least closer to it. ButGothamhas given us a slow burn, showing the slow transformation not only for the young member of the Wayne family, but for the city as well.
The series has featured a ton of villains from the world of DC Comics including Scarecrow, Dr. Hugo Strange, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and, most recently,The Joker. Cameron Monaghan has been playing a character by the name of Jerome who many suspected to be The Joker. However, the real Joker wasrecently revealedand that meansGothamseason 5 could have some potentially major events in store. With a fully-fledged Joker and a young hero transitioning into Batman, we could see some classic comic book action on the small screen before this is all said and done. It may have been a slow burn, but watching this show could finally pay off in a big way for those who have been sticking with it over the years.
Gotham’s large ensemble cast includesBen McKenzie, Donal Logue, Morena Baccarin, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, David Mazouz, Camren Bicondova, Cory Michael Smith, Jessica Lucas, Chris Chalk, Drew Powell, Alexander Siddig and Crystal Reed. Fox has yet to set a premiere date forGothamseason 5, but since the show is getting a shorter season, it may debut a little later in the fall season than it normally would have.
