A team up betweenThe Officestars and Green Day was not on my 2025 Bingo card, but I’m intrigued. The punk rock band known for hits like “Basket Case,” “American Idiot,” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” are working with two alums of NBC’s most popular comedy show on an unexpected new movie. While the film has been described as a comedy, it is not related to the recently released and poorly receivedAustralian version of the long-running show about printer and paper sales. The new film sounds much more exciting.

According toVariety, Live Nation Productions is partnering with Green Day to create a comedy film inspired by the band’s crazy early days on the road, and is set to starThe Office’s Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey.New Years Revis described as a coming-of-age story about three friends, who will be played by Mason Thames ofThe Black Phone, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust. While the trio will not be playing band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, the three actors will play members of a band that travels to Los Angeles, mistakenly believing that they are opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.

In an official statement on the film, co-executive producer Ryan Kroft said:

“With incredible guidance from Green Day,New Years Revtells the story of young artists chasing a dream — long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of the stage fueling their journey. Brought to life by an incredible cast, it’s a tribute to the magic of live music.”

TheOffice

Written and directed by Lee Kirk, the film’s official logline describes the road trip comedy as “a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled withadventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van.” Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had the following to say about the inspiration forNew Years Rev:

“Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of, but you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”

Talk About a Comeback

The California rock band recently released its latest album,Saviors, in 2024 and is set to headline Coachella this April. Another triumphant update comes from Fischer, asshe recently announced that she battled breast cancer and is now cancer free. As for Kinsey, she supported her friend and podcast co-host through her diagnosis andnow the two are working on the upcoming road trip comedy that is currently in production in Oklahoma.

Live Nation Productions, the film and TV arm of Live Nation Entertainment, is no stranger to music-inspired projects. Their past productions include the Oscar-winning remake ofA Star Is Born, and the cinematic David Bowie documentaryMoonage Daydream.Other stars in the cast forNew Years Revinclude Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo.
