While theGreen Lantern Corps.movie has stalled for years now, we are officially going to see some iteration of Green Lantern on the small screen, as ArrowVerse mastermind Greg Berlanti is cooking up aGreen LanternTV show. He will also continue to grow his DC Comics small screen empire with a new anthology series based within the DC universe itself.
Greg Berlantiis known best for his DC superhero shows on The CW. He is the producer behind the incredibly successfulArrow, which is bringing its run to an end this season. He also masterminded the spin-off seriesThe Flash,Supergirl,Legends of Tomorrow,Black LighteningandBatwoman, all of which will come together in a massive crossover later this fall withCrisis on Infinite Earths.
Now, he is moving forward on two superhero shows being created exclusively for the new streaming entity HBO MAX, which is launching in May 2020. The DC Anthology series is title Strange Adventures. The other show doesn’t have a title yet, but the press release claims that this will be a “Green Lantern inspired series”.
Strange Adventureswill feature characters from DC’s expansive canon. It will be a one-hour superhero-themed adventure that explores, “close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and super-humans.”
So far, DC is keeping pretty tipped lipped about what fans can expect from theGreen Lanternseries, apart from the fact that it is actually happening. Something we can’t really say about theGreen Lantern Corps.movie, since we haven’t had any kind of update from Warner Bros. on that front in a very long time. Greg Berlanti said this in a statement.
“Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating forHBO Maxwill be unlike anything seen on television. An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”
Greg Berlanti andArrowconsulting producer Marc Guggenheim are responsible for co-writing the 2011Green Lanternatrocity starring Ryan Reynolds. Though, it is noted that the pair lost creative control during the production, so they can’t be completely blamed for the movie’s failure. Perhaps this is Berlanti’s chance to set things right?
At the moment, Berlanti is in control of 9 different live-action DC Comics shows. They includeArrow,The Flash,Supergirl,Legends of Tomorrow,BatwomanandBlack Lightningon The CW, withTitanson DC Universe, along with the forthcomingStargirl, andDoom Patrol, which will be streaming on both DC Universe and HBO Max for its second anticipated season.
Greg Berlanti is also in the midst of creating moreArrowVerseshows for The CW. They includeSuperman & Loisand an all-femaleArrowspin-off featuring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy.
Serving as executive producers onStrange Adventureswill be Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and showrunner/writer John Stephens. Both it and theGreen Lanternseries are coming from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. This news comes fromEntertainment Weekly.
