Halle Berrymay not be finished just yet with theJohn Wickseries. In 2019, Berry made her debut in the franchise by appearing as the assassin Sofia inJohn Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum. She does not return in the next installment of the franchise,John Wick: Chapter 4, which is set for a 2023 release.
This isn’t to say Berry won’t be back in the role of Sofia again at some point in the future. In a recent interview withIGN, Berry confirmed that she isn’t a part ofParabellum. However, she went on to tease that Sofia’s return could still be on the horizon. Even better for fans of the character, Berry says Sofia just might be given her own spinoff movie. As the actress explains:

“Sofia’s not in the next John Wick movie. There could possibly be a Sofia…her own movie. So she might not be in John Wick, but she might be doing her own thingy-thingy.”
Berry’s comments are promising, as it seems a Sofia spinoff is a real possibility. Should the potential project go through, Berry feels it would put “some ointment on a little sore,” referring to the canceledDie Another Dayspinoff which would have brought her back as James Bond’s love interest Jinx. Berry has been open about her disappointment that this project was never brought to fruition.
There areJohn Wickspinoffs already in the works, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Berry will get her own. It has been reported that a prequel series dubbedThe Continentalwill be set decades before the events of the first film with Mel Gibson co-starring alongside Colin Woodell as a young Winston. There have also been reports of Ana de Armas entering early negotiations to star in a spinoff calledBallerina.

Halle Berry Made Her Directorial Debut with 2020’s Bruised
Last year, Halle Berry made her directorial debut with the Netflix movieBruised. Berry also stars in the lead role as a former UFC fighter returning to competition to recapture her former glory years later. Her work with Shamier Anderson on that movie alsoled to his casting inJohn Wick: Chapter 4.Even though Berry isn’t a part of that sequel, she put in a good word for Anderson, leading to director Chad Stahelski to give the actor a look.
“I got the job, and I finished filming a week ago," Anderson said upon completing his work inJohn Wick 4. “I’m inJohn Wickwith Keanu Reeves! Shout-out to Halle Berry for giving me the opportunity that led to that.”
It remains to be seen if Berry manages to ever return in theJohn Wickuniverse as well. If Anderson’s character survivesJohn Wick: Chapter 4, which is probably unlikely if he’ll be playing a villain, perhaps he could reunite with Berry inJohn Wick: Chapter 5, or even the rumored Sofia spinoff that Berry says just might happen.John Wick: Chapter 4is set to be released on August 20, 2025.
