10 years ago, Harvard symbologistRobert Langdontransitioned from the pages ofDan Brown’s hit novels to the big screen, withTom Hanksportraying this iconic character in 2006’sThe Da Vinci Code. He returned three years later for the follow-upAngels & Demons, but it’s been seven long years since we’ve seen Dr. Langdon on the big screen. That will change this fall with the upcomingInferno, and today we have the second trailer with new footage.
Thisnew trailer, which comes courtesy ofSony Pictures, finds the famous symbologist (again played byTom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to stop a madman from unleashing a global virus that would wipe out half of the world’s population.

The film’s screenplay is written byDavid Koepp, based upon the novel by Dan Brown, withBrian GrazerandRon Howardserving as the producers. Sony has set an October 28 release date forInferno, putting it up against Paramount’sRingsand an untitled horror film from Lionsgate.
Tom HanksandRon Howard’sThe Da Vinci CodeandAngels & Demonshave both earned over $1.2 billion worldwide to date. The supporting cast forInfernois rounded out byIrrfan Khanas Harry Sims, a.k.a. It isn’t known if the filmmakers andTom Hankswill team up to adaptDan Brown’s thirdRobert Langdon novel,The Lost Symbol, which was originally in development afterAngels & Demons. Although the filmmakers decided to skip over that novel and makeInfernoinstead, based on the book of the same name that was published in 2013.
