Netflix hasn’t announced a release date forStranger ThingsSeason 2 yet. But it likely won’t arrive until this summer. A trailer is still a little ways into the future as far as new episodes are concerned. But we do have some fresh intel from a couple of folks involved with the production. Perhaps coolest of all is that one of the main actors returning to the show has revealed his ultimate fate.
Vanity Fairspoke withNoah Schnapp, who playsWill Byers, the young boy fromHawkins, Indianawho was trapped in the Upside Down. Schnapp didn’t have much to do in the first 8 episodes, even though the entire story revolved around him. The young actor is coming back in a big way, though, and has been promoted to series regular forStranger ThingsSeason 2. He teases a gruesome transformation for Will Byers when the new episodes debut later this year.
“You’ll be seeing more of me. I’ll be there. In the last episode, I threw up a slug, so Season 2 begins with what happens from there. There may have been some effect on him. I may or may not have turned into a monster. You’ll have to watch to find out.”
ProducerShawn Levyhas also chimed in on what can be expected out of these upcoming episodes. And it won’t be for the faint of heart. Season 2, which is being set up more like a true movie sequel than an actual season of a TV show, will take place in 1984. And it will be curbing from some of the more popular horror movies of the time. This time around, the stakes are higher, and the body count will substantially grow. Levy says this about the return of Stranger Things.
“Season 2 is bigger and potentially darker in its stakes. The threat, which in Season 1 was to Will Byers, has grown. That’s all I’m going to say! But, I will say Season 2 has a bigger cast and is definitely loyal to the kind ofmagical storytellingthat we established in the first season. It’s character-based and still about our core group of characters.”
Stranger Things Season 2will bring back the main cast includingFinn Wolfhard(Mike Wheeler),Millie Bobby Brown(Eleven),Gaten Matarazzo(Dustin Henderson),Caleb McLaughlin(Lucas Sinclair),Natalia Dyer(Nancy Wheeler) andCharlie Heaton(Jonathan Byers). Vanity Fair talked withFinn Wolfhard, who teased that they know everything about their characters this season. Here’s what he had to say, explaining that they’ll be taking their characters to the next level this season.
“Now that we’ve done a season, we know exactly about our characters. We are very conscious of them and can take them to the next level. I think we’ve grown up a little bit, and our characters have too. They have been through a lot and have used those experiences to help them grow and to be stronger in Season 2.”
Along with the returning adult stars such asWinona Ryderas Joyce Byers andDavid Harbouras Sheriff Jim Hopper, there will a number ofnew cast memberscoming by this season.Sadie SinkandDacre Montgomeryare playing step-siblings Max and Billy,Sean Astinis playing the manager of the local Hawkins Radio Shack, whilePaul Reiserwill play a government official who comes to town to investigate what happened during the first season.Linnea Berthelsenis playing Roman, a damaged young woman who doesn’t actually live in Hawkins, but is connected to the mysterious events ofStranger ThingsSeason 1.Brett Gelmanhas also come aboard to play a former journalist turned conspiracy theorist who comes to Hawkins while investigating a cold case.
