Supermanis set to be one of the most talked-about movies of the summer, so it is not surprising that everyone wants to know exactly what fans will be getting when David Corenswet’s Man of Steel takes to the skies in July. In an extensive interview withDeadline, Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairmanMike De Lucatouched on the upcoming movie, gushing that the “epic” return of Superman to cinemas is a “five-star movie.”

James Gunn was given the task of writing a newSupermanmovie before he became the joint CEO of DC Studios. Now he is the driving force behind the movie, and De Luca believes that there could not be anyone better at the helm. He said:

Still from Superman

“I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it. It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional. The performances are great. It is a five-star movie to me, and I can’t wait for the world to see it. Yeah, we’re really excited about Superman, James crushed it.”

‘Superman’s Controversial Sneak Peek Has Received Some Incredibly Divisive Reactions

‘Superman’s sneak peek has clearly divided fans over how vulnerable the Man of Steel appears in the new footage, but everyone loves Krypto.

Asked whether Gunn’s movie is a “cousin” toRichard Donner’s originalSupermanstarring Christopher Reeve, De Luca explained that the film takes inspiration from “what has made Superman endure for almost a hundred years.” He said:

A kaiju spewing fire at Superman in the new 2025 Superman movie

“I would say in spirit, it is closer to that, but it’s also a big hunk of epic sci-fi. It has a little bit of what I loved about Guardians of the Galaxy, but it’s true-blue Superman. The conflict sources that he uses for inspiration, All-Star Superman and the like are in there, too. It is really a love letter to what has made Superman endure for almost a hundred years. He managed to get it all in there.”

‘Superman’ Is Reportedly Episodic With No Single Plotline

Perhaps De Luca’s explanation of Gunn’s many inspirations is revealing as to whysome early screeningshave had people saying the movie is a piecemeal film, with Corenswet’s Man of Steel dotting around all over fighting aliens, taking on Lex Luthor, saving children, while being surrounded by almost a dozen major DC characters.

Test screening reactions that have found their way online have been mixed, as many people would expect. Some have hailed it as the greatest superhero movie to come from Warner Bros. in decades, while others have ultimately decided that the film is not in any way like Zack Snyder’s movies and the lead is not Henry Cavill, and therefore have no interest in it and believe it is the worst movie of all time.

So how willSupermanfare this summer? It does have some tough competition to face, with Marvel Studios droppingFantastic Four: First Stepssoon afterward, and other huge movies such asJurassic World: Rebirthalso vying for attention. However, the curiosity factor is extremely high forSuperman, with many fans wanting to experience the movie first hand and make up their mind whether James Gunn and Peter Safran can deliver a DCU that works, or if it is going to be the same old story as Synder’s now defunct original DCEU plan.
