During the U.S. premiere ofSuperman, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn was asked if he had the chance to read the script for the long-awaitedThe Batmansequel. He kept things brief, but revealed that “it’s great.“It is not clear if the screenplay is ready to enter production, but the positive update surely points toward a likely filming start later this year. Robert Pattinson will be busy filming his villain role inDune: Messiahsoon, but he should be able to complete his work for Denis Villeneuve before he heads back to DC.The Batman - Part IIis currently slated to release in theaters on August 10, 2025.

Of course, the future may hold a different outcome, especially ifBrave and the Boldends up not happening. However, it seems the Epic Crime Saga, encompassed byThe BatmanandThe Penguin, will remain an Elseworlds property.

James Gunn Reveals the Current State of DCU’s Batman
AfterSupermanintroduces David Corenswet as the Man of Steel this summer, the DCU will haveanother key superherocome into focus. The DCU is set to have its own version of the Batman, separate from the Robert Pattinson iteration. It is currently unclear who will put on the mantle, butThe Brave and the Boldis meant to be the first time audiences will see a new actor portray the iconic character. Set to be directed by Andy Muschietti (The Flash),The Brave and the Boldhas a lot riding on its shoulders. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem there has been significant progress on the script for the upcoming Batman-Robin film.
While James Gunn expects to read a completed draft sometime this year, he revealed during the U.S. premiere ofSuperman(via Games Radar) that he and an unnamed writer are currently “hammering away” at the screenplay forThe Brave and the Bold. There aren’t any updates besides that, so don’t get your hopes up on seeing the film enter pre-production anytime soon.

“There’s really no new updates. I mean, we’re working on a script. We have a screenwriter who’s hammering away at it. I’m very involved, and so, you know, we’ll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don’t.”
